The Grand HotelFlora was billed as a four star hotel, if it had been billed as a 3 star we would have been delighted with it, as a four star there were a couple of things that niggled us about it.
Our first indication was when we sat in the plush entrance waiting for our rooms to be allocated (we were on a package so quite a few peopl descended on them at once). As we waited, people who had allready been allocated their room kept coming back down to reception - that didn't boad well. The problems with the rooms are that many are quite small, some look out onto the noisy road, and some, like ours look out onto another hotels wall about 2 feet away and didn't have a balcony.
The rooms however were kept clean, and thought the initial impression was they were small, we found them adequate.
The pool is just large and square (and cold in May!) and they charge a fee to use the sunbeds - a standard Italian practice apparently.
When mentioning that we were going to Italy, every one had made comments sucha as "the food is superb". I must say I was dissapointed with it. It was definately cooked for English people, canteen style - but I suppose it's hard to run a hotel restaurant any other way. There were busy times in the restaurant when you had to wait outside a while to be seated - we just went back down to the bar for a while. Althought that was an expedition as the bar is on the ground floor and the restaurant is on the top floor to take advantage of the views - try to get a window table (although everyone is then pointed your way so don't spill down yourself!
The highlight of meal times was always the waiters who would joke with you and sing to you, they really made the experience better.
The location of the hotel is good, it's a flat half a mile (ish) walk to the main centre of the resort (and a flat walk in Sorrento is unusual!). It's also on the Naples resort which makes it one of the first drop offs on arrival.
Overall we liked The Grand Flora and Sorrento is a wonderful resort.

Thanks for the review, hoping to get to Sorrento Next year. I presume they do just Bed & Breakfast. We find abroad its better eating out. Hotels try to cater for evryone and fail for most. Grazzi Steve
