Grand Hotel Palazzo della Fonte, Fiuggi

I stayed here a few years ago when I won 4 nights through the company I was working for at the time. My friend and I decided to make a holiday of the trip and booked 3 nights in a small b&b in Rome before we travelled to Fiuggi.

Rome was fantastic and by the end of our three days we were in dire need of some rest and relaxation. We travelled to Fiuggi by bus and train and after an hour or so we arrived at the local bus station. We dragged our suitcases up to the gates of the hotel and called the reception via an intercom. To our surprise, a few minutes later a car arrived for us to take us to the hotel (which it turned out was at the top of a very long, winding driveway!).

The hotel itself is magnificent, with lots of marble and chandeliers. We were shown to our room which was spacious with a seperate dressing room, large marble bathroom and an excellent view. Breakfast was included in my prize and there was a fantastic range of pastries, fruit and cereals on offer.

The leisure facilities at the hotel were brilliant, with a spa, gym and indoor and outdoor pools. We visited the spa to have pedicures (after wandering aimlessly around Rome for three days, we needed them!) and the treatments were lovley. The staff were all fantastic and we were treated like royalty throughout our stay - on one occasion we asked for a taxi to take us to a local restaurant and we were given another driver. At the end of our meal, the same driver appeared to take us home!

The hotel offers an amazing view of the medieval part of Fiuggi which is perched on top of a hill and is full of tiny alleyways and squares (and no roads). We found it fascinating to wander around, although we did get lots numerous times. The newer part of Fiuggi is a spa town, the waters are apparently renowned for their health-giving properties. This means that the town can be quite touristy, making it all the more special to retire to the peaceful palazzo.

All in all, this is an amazing hotel in a beautiful location. I will certainly be going back, however I think I may have to save up a bit first! Prices this summer are 160 euros for a standard room and 260 euros for a delux, however these are promotional rates and are obviously subject to change.
