inauguration hosted by King Oscar II in 1893. Ka Wallenburg was the visionary who turned his dream into reality after a trip to Monte Carlo. Saltsjobaden was to become the perfect recreational site for a modern society, an oasis to return to in the summer, winter, spring or autumn. The railway from Stockholm was also built at the that time to provide hardworking Stockholm residents with a fast route to the seaside and the fresh salty air of Saltsjobaden. Rooms are decorated in an old-fashioned, classic style, and fully equipped for a comfortable stay. It is a peaceful oasis for the corporate or leisure traveller who does not want to stay in the city centre. Should you wish to arrive at the hotel on your own boat (in the summer), the hotel offers mooring places at their own jetty.

...We went to stockholm just before christmas, great time to go, we had the snow we wanted, but unlike Britain, stockholm did not grind to a halt! We got to the country very cheaply, we took advantage of ryan air's deals and flew for a penny both ways. Our hotel was an equivalent to a travel lodge in style, but we got excellent service. We were also give passes which gave us free entry into many museums, free tram and train journeys and some boat cruises. These were called metro passes (i think) you can look for them on the net. The city was beautiful, loads of pubs and nightlife. Everything was so clean and fresh. The christmas markets were lovely. The only downside was the cost of eating and drinking, unknown to us before we went the gov charges 25% tax on top of everything you buy, like vat but added on top of your final bill. Would...

Advantages: Lots to do, very clean. Disadvantages: None.
...Stockholm – Venice of the North. Hang on I thought that was Bruges, no Amsterdam? How many are there? Whatever it is, it’s great.
I’ve recently returned from Stockholm after a very enjoyable three-night break. All right, so it’s freezing outside. Wear a scarf, hat, gloves and a warm coat and you’re over that problem. Alternatively keep popping into the numerous coffee-houses that abound throughout the whole city and warm up with a latte. Very Swedish I’m sure!
The city comprises of a number of islands dotted throughout a large lagoon and the mainland itself. Gamla Stan is the old town and is a mish match of small alleyways and open squares holding the usual tourist gift shops next to the not so usual high quality art gallery. Add to this the many coffee shops, bars, restaurants and the Grand Palace...

Advantages: Cheap, lots of stations, mostly reliable Disadvantages: Can be hard to understand for non-swedes
...I recently read an opinion on "Getting Around in Stockholm", which contained very little or true information, so decided to write my own. Perhaps not many people will read it, but the opinion I read does nothing to portray the real Stockholm public transport system.
Stockholm has one of the best public transport systems in Europe, controlled by the company called SL. The Stockholm T-bana (the underground system) is also considered to be one of the most beautiful in Europe, especially stations such as T-Centralen and Kungstädgården. As well as the T-Bana, public transport consists of a network of 9000km of bus routes, 284km of trainlines and 17km of tramlines.
Underground (T-Bana)
********************
Stockholm's T-bana is 108km long, of which 62km is underground, 10km is over bridges or viaducts. There are around 680 underground trains...
