Advantages: Beautiful, inexpensive, friendly (and not too hot!) Disadvantages: "Posers" in Biarritz, mosquitos
..." (Natural Park) above the cliffs - several times i had spectacular bays, with waves crashing and seagulls wheeling, all to myself.
Next i crossed the border into Spain and stopped in San Sebastian for two days. The hotel i booked fell through, and after reporting to a packed but extremely helpful Tourist Information Office was re-located to the University, which lets out its' hall of residence in the summer holiday. It's a fantastic place to stay, with huge rooms, a generous breakfast, and all for 47 Euros - and the staff all speak English (i don't speak Spanish). The bay at San Sebastian has a mount at each of its' two sides, one with an old fort on top, and the other with a comically-shabby amusement park. Both give fabulous views.
The last place i stopped was St. JeandeLuz, where there was a Basque carnival underway - man, they like...

Advantages: Quick transfers, good central location and transport Disadvantages: Very German the further towards S'Arenal you get

there is a grand staircase which takes you up to the restaurant level, then on up to the rooms.
we stayed in a deluxe executive room, we got an excellent deal through berlin.de for 116 euros per night. the room rate advertised in reception was 300 euros!!
the room was beautifully decorated, the bed was really comfy. in the room you had a mini bar, writing desk with all the electrics you would need (fax etc), comfy chair, satellite tv and all the mod cons.
the bathroom was black marble, with a lovely deep bath and power shower. all your toilletries are provided, so don't bother about bringing any with you. there is a bathrobe and slippers, hairdryer for you to use.
our rate didn't include breakfast which if you did buy from the hotel would cost you 24 euros!! there are loads of cafe's in the vacinity which will do all you need...
