Grand Mercure on Renmin Square, Xian

Disadvantages: Very bad experience

I strongly advise travellors to avoid Grand Mercure Bangkok for following reasons: 1. What you see in the photos is NOT what you stay, especially some of the deluxe rooms have not been renovated at all and feel entirely old (1-star?). This is very dishonest because we get an impression of the hotel in pictures that is far from reality. 2. They confirmed my internet booking but on arrival were unable to provide the non-smoking room reserved and put me in a smoking room on a smoking floor. They offered NO REFUNDS even if I wanted to change hotel. 3. They promised to move me to a non-smoking room the next day, even told me the new room number -- but the next day they gave that room to another customer and told me to stay in the same room as the hotel was fully booked. 4. On the Square

Advantages: Good location, good standard, clean and pleasant
Disadvantages: A bit anonymous

The Square is a mid priced hotel situated in the heart of Copenhagen, on Radhuspladsen and overlooking Tivoli Gardens. A short walk from the Central Station it is very handy for transfers from the airport and provides an excellent base for touring the city. Part of the ARP-Hansen Hotel Group it is one of several hotels in Copenhagen and like their other properties offers a good standard of accommodation geared towards the modern business or tourist traveller. Location ~ Despite the claims that the hotel overlooks Tivoli gardens this is somewhat misleading. Granted, from the top (6th) floor you can see the giant Tivoli sign but that's about it. Xi'an - Beautiful madness

Advantages: Authentic and loads to do
Disadvantages: Easy to get lost

Xi'an is the capital of the Shaanxi province and one of China's major cities (being the country's capital at one point). It's an old city which hasn't developed quite as quickly as many other major cities. There is plenty to do in Xi'an and you're unlikely to find a day with nothing to do. I have given a list of some of the major attractions, but there are many more to be found; just by exploring. City Wall Xi'an is one of the few cities in China to still have a complete city wall and is the most complete surviving city wall in China. The wall is 8.5 miles long and you can walk round the wall (taking roughly 2 hours) or for far more fun you can hire a bike (or Tandem) and cycle round.
