Advantages: Everything you could want under one (massive) roof Disadvantages: Located at the southern end of "The Strip" - so a bit of a walk to some attractions...
...We stayed at the MASSIVE MGM Grand for a few days this time last year.
The MGM Grand, guarded by a 45-foot-tall bronze lion statue has 5,005 rooms and used to be the largest hotel in the world, a claim recently stolen by the Ambassador City Jomtien hotel in Thailand with 5,100 rooms. It's still the largest hotel in North America, although I think this will soon be stolen by George Clooney's Vegas hotel development...
(While we're on the subject of large hotels, 17 of the 20 largest hotels in the world are in Las Vegas ! So even if you don't stay at The MGM Grand, odds are you'll be staying somewhere big...)
The MGM Grand is part of the MGM Mirage group, that also owns, among others, The Bellagio, The Mirage, Treasure Island, New York-New York (just across the street) and Beau Rivage hotels/casinos in Vegas.

Advantages: Magnificent resort hotel. Self contained. Good rewards. A superb well maintained self contained Resort hotel complex adjacent to DisneyWorld. More than enough things to keep interests aroused. Disadvantages: Could be considered expensive.
...On a recent trip to Tampa, Florida we spent the weekend over in Orlando cashing in a gift voucher for my wife’s birthday (more of this later). I have been a member of the Hyatt Gold Passport scheme for about five years now and have been very impressed by the standards that are maintained in their premises both in Europe and the States. The hotel sits in the midst of a 1500 acre estate on the northern edge of Walt DisneyWorld. It towers over the other establishments in Hotel Plaza in Disney Village but paradoxically is not ‘on property’. We arrived by car from the West, leaving the I4 at the Lake Buena Vista exit (all the interstate road junction...

Advantages: A fascinating place to visit and so much to see Disadvantages: One can get worn out just trying to explore the whole hotel
.... Casino hosts wander around with trays taking drinks orders and bring over your drinks orders - I had no problem with tipping them with $2 or $3 each time, but don't expect them to return within a few minutes. A few times I had to wait nearly 20 minutes for them to come back with the drink - bear in mind that they are walking around the machines and taking orders from several people and then have to wait for these drinks to be poured at bars where the bar staff are already serving customers too.
SHOPPING/RELAXING/ETC
There are many shops in MGM and not being much of a shopaholic, I had no intention of visiting all of the shops in the hotel. I did however visit the MGM Grand gift shop where there was a huge selection of Vegas souvenirs to be had as well as souvenirs specific to your stay in the actual hotel. I have to admit...

I recently spent three nights in the Albus Grand. On arrival we were upgraded to a superior room at no extra cost. I asked the receptionist why she had upgraded us .. she said she wanted us to have a happy day. That was a great start to a wonderful... more
