1993. The hotel offers a number of facilities, including 100 air-conditioned rooms, the Eken Bar and Brasserie, six meeting rooms and two Finnish saunas.
Bouchers, and all major shopping and sightseeing opportunities. For business or pleasure, the hotel is the ideal location for an unforgettable stay in Brussels.
Advantages: Fantastic scenery, plenty to eat and drink - and its free to roam! Disadvantages: The hoardes of tourists (me included!)

Flanked on all four sides by a series of buildings erected over the course of the last 600 years, it is a tourist mecca which appears on every postcard.
In the small back streets that rise off from the square, there is a maze of bars, cafes and restaurants.
Many are pricy, but on a summers day it is THE place to sit with a grande bier, watching the world go by.
You can even ... ...something in the region of 450 BF (£7.50) - and it is worth cruising for a while to find the little extras some venues chuck in (beer, wine, salad, pud).
When I visited on a Sunday, the square was home to the open air bird market.
If you can get over the cruelty of seeing some of the most incredibly beautiful birds in the world crammed five or six to a shoe-box-sized cage, this is quite a spectacle.
Many of the birds seem to be rare South American ...

Advantages: Loads of Pubs Disadvantages: Could be dodgy at night
...matter where you enter the Grand Place from you will notice the remarkable architechture of the buildings surrounding it! A big advantage of the square is that there are many pubs where you can relax and enjoy the view. On occasions, the whole of Grand Place is covered with a carpet of flower which is extraordinary. During the Christmas period there is a christmas market.
The only downside of Grand Place is that it could be a bit dangerous at night. ...

Advantages: Fantastic location Disadvantages: Beibg rebuilt during my stay
...This is an excellent clean and modern hotel with a terrific location and affordable rates.
Firstly, the location is just a few blocks from both the Central Station and the GrandPlace; the main tourist trap of the capital.
This saved time and money as I was able to begin my Brussels adventures just about immediately after arrival into the city.
Most of the main sights in Brussels are within walking distance; such as Grandeplace, Mannekan and Jannekan pis and many city museums...and since everything leads back to the GrandPlace, you can easily drop in to dump stuff in your room or take a quick break from sightseeing , shopping, culture and dining.
I was able to get a good 'city break' rate of 72 Euros per night with breakfast, pre-paid.
The staff were very helpful during check-in considering the hotel was being renovated...

...by the French king Louis XIV. The result was disastrous: more than 4000 houses and the GrandPlace were completely destroyed.
The last foreign emperor to rule over Brussels and the present Belgian kingdom was the Dutch emperor William I. He was forced out of Belgium in 1830, when a successful struggle for independence began in Brussels.
In 1831 the first Belgian king, Leopold I, ascended the throne and Brussels became the capital of the new kingdom. There then followed a long period of rebuilding, new and grand buildings were erected, the city walls were demolished, and the city expanded in size and importance.
After WWII Belgium was divided in two semi-independent regions, Flanders and the Walloon Province. Brussels became a district with its own government (with limited powers).
Brussels also became the capital of the European Union...

Advantages: Clean room, comfy bed, location for exploring Disadvantages: Unhelpful staff, streets full of beggars and thieves, theft, no safe, expensive Wi-Fi
...an issue for me as the bill would be paid on my expense account; however I equated the fact that £95 a night must equal a decent quality hotel regardless of the star rating. Considering I paid only £55 per night recently for a 4* hotel in Spain I was looking forward to a stay in a lovely hotel.
Located down a narrow side street only a stones throw from GrandPlace at 17/19 Rue De La Fourche, Brussels 1000 the hotel is a 12 Euro taxi ride from Brussels Midi Eurostar station, and 35 Euro from Brussels airport. As far as location was concerned, the cobbled street seemed dirty and the outside looked worn and tatty while it was surrounded by grubby looking fast food restaurants, Shisha bars and down market chocolate shops. Now before I sound like I’m doing down the location, I have to say that while the street on which the hotel stands...
