We had a black tie and cocktail dress Summer ball to go to in the city so I decided that we would splash out a bit and go for an upmarket hotel which was close to our train station (Fenchurch Street).
From the moment you walk in the impressive entrance with it marble and chandeliers you could tell this was a different class. The staff were very attentive and plentiful and checking in was a breeze with a central check in desk manned by six staff. We were given our room and off we went todrop our gear off. This is where we had a problem, when we entered the room, there was somebody elses belonging already in there. It would appear they had double booked. what was quite disturbing was the fact I had access to this room with someone elses valuables and possesions in it. after a quick call to reception this was remedied with a bell boy coming up and taking our luggage to another (upgraded) room. The room was as you would expect from a five star hotel, Cable, Internet access, Minibar, superb bathroom Really comfy bed.
After the ball we were suprised to find the bar still open and very busy it was explained that it was a 24 hour bar as long as someone wanted serving. all in all despite the small hiccup which was soon remedied, a wonderfui stay !!
