Granville Island Hotel, a marina side hotel on Granville Island, is within walking distance of the lively Granville Public Market. Guests can dine alfresco on the dockside patio, enjoy drinks in the on site microbrewery's pub, relax in the sauna or rooftop spa tub, or burn calories in the fitness room. The Granville Island Hotel is a pet friendly facility, and this location is ideal for pets, as the Island has many park areas and boardwalks to stroll around. The Dockside Restaurant features an on site brewpub and a patio that offers incredible views. It is open seven days a week serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. An eclectic variety of amenities furnish the 82 guestrooms. There is no such thing as a typical guestroom at the Granville Island Hotel. Some have water views and wooden shutters; others have beamed ceilings and marble floors with Persian rugs and soaker tubs.

Advantages: THE BREWERY, THE FRESH FISH Disadvantages: NOT A THING
...fish, chips and beer then Granville Island is for you. Granville Island is located under the Granville street bridge next to false creek (another great place) equipped with its own brewery (some of the best local beer available) and loads of restaurants serving every type of fresh fish (and I mean fresh as in caught that day) locally caught and fish mongers (mmmm fresh fish) to take the catch of the day home with you.
The restaurants ... ...dinner. All the restaurants on Granville Island are of top quality and the food is second to none.
Also along Granville Island is a Massive Toy store where kids and adults can run and play with loads of stuffed toys or even just around the corner is a rentals shop where you can rent some roller blades or a bike and just travel around Granville island or even just around the area itself.

The restaurants are situated along the water front to give you that great sea side view of the passing ships while enjoying your freshly caught lunch or dinner. All the restaurants on Granville Island are of top quality and the food is second to none.

Granville Island has everything a tourist or local could ever want loads of shopping, restaurants, BEER and there's even a design school for the very well off. If you're going to visit Vancouver then you need to sit down in one of the restaurants and have yourself one of the locally brewed beers and some of the greatest fish around.
As for disadvantages well there really is none it doesn't cost anything to just walk around and look at all the shops and the experience itself is just an uplifting one.
Advantages: scenic setting, great bar Disadvantages: difficult location by public transit
I have not stayed in the rooms of the GranvilleIsland Hotel, so do not observe the ratings below as a reflection of the rooms. I have eaten in their bar, and I know the area well, so I am writing this review to help potential visitors who do not know the city of Vancouver.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD: Quaint GranvilleIsland has a massive public market where produce and prepared foods are available en masse. There is a thriving local theatre community in the summertime, and several great restaurants. In a way, it could be construed as a tourist trap, but residents and tourists alike seem to feel that there's good reason to flock there. The island is vibrant, safe, and welcoming. It is centrally located in Vancouver's downtown--between the trendy "West End" and the artsy Kitsilano.
THE BAR: An open-concept room with panoramic views ...
Advantages: Pretty much perfection Disadvantages: Rains alot!
: This is an automated transit system which offers fast efficient service (daily, every 2 ? 5 minutes) between central ?down town? Vancouver and the suburbs of Burnaby, Surrey and Guildford. As with most public transport in the city, Sky Train carriages and stations are wheelchair accessible (except Granville station).
Buses ? cheap, efficient and frequent with an extensive service across downtown and suburban Vancouver. Make sure you have the right money though cos drivers don?t give change.
SeaBus ? a passenger commuter ferry system which connects Vancouver from Waterfront Station with Lonsdale Quay on the North Shore (home to Vancouver?s mountains and Lonsdale market). The scenic journey takes just 12 minutes.
BC Ferries ? there are two ferry terminals--Tsawwassen and Horseshoe Bay, providing access to VancouverIsland, the Gulf Islands ...

Ciao members have rated this review on average: very helpful Review of Vancouver (Canada)
Advantages: Vibrant, busy and buzzing city. Disadvantages: For me, nothing special of note in the city
with lots of shops and restaurants. Although the approach along Granville Street was long, it is in no way unpleasant as it is all very green and open. Eventually, one comes over a rise on the main road and catches sight of the downtown area in the distance over the bridges across the bay.
We stayed in an apartment hotel just off of Davie Street which is a busy, vibrant downtown area with lots of bars and restaurants, and only a short walk from the music clubs and bars. It is also a comfortable walk to Robson Street where most of the high end shops are situated, and to the waterfront, Canada Place and Gas Town. GranvilleIsland is quite close by car, but from our base the best way was a short walk to the water taxi.
GranvilleIsland was interesting with lots of markets and all varieties of very reasonably priced food from the entire range ...
