Although their cars are left hand drive, they still drive on the left. The majority of the population is of African origin and very religious. Nassau, (the capital of Providence Island), has an Anglican Cathedral and many churches from all denomination.
Walking on the outskirts of Nassau I heard a jazz band, curious I turned round and saw people wearing bright colours, singing and dancing : - Festival ? Celebration of some kind? No a Funeral!
Nassau is over 4000 miles from the UK. Flight from London will take approx. 9 hours to reach Nassau's International Airport. It wasn't until the sixties that tourism started booming.

For many years I worked for a company that had a US office in New Jersey which I used to visit several time each year. This was a dreary place on a soul-less industrial estate in Dayton that had little to attract visitors. However, it wasn't too far from the university town of Princeton and since many of my colleagues lived in that area, it wasn't hard to persuade the secretary who booked our hotels to book in Princeton. The name Nassau conjures up images of swaying palms, white sand, a gentle surf and a light sweet breeze. Maybe it was once like that. The port is very large, and right at the centre of town, allowing many ships of any size to dock directly without tendering.
