Disappointing
Advantages: The location Disadvantages: The single casual visitor is likely to get a rough deal
This hotel is officially ranked as four star, not two star, but I have to say my experience was closer to two star than four star. First impressions were good with the reception staff being friendly and helpful but the room was a big let down. The door was difficult to open and close, and inside I found a small basic room with no mini bar, no shaving socket and, more seriously, no room safe. I was promised a king sized bed but got a not very comfortable ... ...of being located opposite the hotel kitchen which meant I was subjected to noise from the staff first thing in the morning. On the plus side, the room was well insulated from street noise and provided free internet access - there was also a computer on the first floor if you didn't bring your laptop.
The buffet breakfast was just adequate - not sumptious. If you came down late, it was likely some items would be missing, particularly the bacon and ...

Ibis Graz - where the smoke gets up your nose
Advantages: Useful location for transport; clean comfortable Disadvantages: Smoky lobby; over-priced if no offer available
If like me you are the sort of person who prefers to stay in more moderate hotel accommodation in order to have more money to spend on things like eating out (or the purchasing of horrific souvenirs) you may be interested to know that to celebrate their 30th anniversary, some of the brands that fall under the Accor umbrella are offering a limited number of rooms at special rates this year. It does mean that you can't alter your reservation and won't ... ...travellers who are willing to risk that, there are bargains to be had.
In mid-June we are going to Hanover and have booked a double room in a very central Mercure hotel for just 39 Euro per night and have just stayed in the Ibis Graz, the subject of this review, for 59 Euro for a double room, a saving of some 20 Euro based on two people staying in the room. Breakfast is not included and should be paid for in situ priced at a hefty 9 Euro 50 for ...

The hotel that thinks it's an art gallery
Advantages: Clean, comfortable, relatively cheap and good location Disadvantages: Garish decor, feeble looking breakfast
...Of the cheaper hotels listed, Hotel Strasser appeared to have the most convenient location just minutes from the train station and only a short walk or a tram ride.to the historic centre of Graz. We were even able to check room availability using the terminal and though Strasser is not one of them, it is possible to reserve rooms via this system if you wish to be certain the room will still be available when you arrive at the hotel.
The distance ... ...of a low standard. The hotel is right on the street and Eggenberger Gurtel is a fairly busy road. However, as soon as we went into the building we realised that the traffic noise was minimal.
Our initial impression was mixed. It was certainly clean and warm and very comfortable although the décor is more than a little excessive with a lounge area and open bar beside the reception desk crammed full of leather chesterfields of various sizes. The walls ...
