Advantages: Historic, culturally diverse and not too huge a city. Disadvantages: Not many, unless you don't like cities, or America, or fish.
...in a couple of other hotels and the Prudential Centre on the way. Not to be sniffed at when the weather turns nasty.
Naturally, there’s a great deal more to Boston than I have iterated here. If there wasn’t, this op would be the size of a Rough Guide. However, it’s here that I will draw a halt, with just a short list of ‘Don’t Miss’ bits and pieces to wrap it all up.
So Don’t Miss:
The Museum of Fine Art – fantastic if you like...well...fine art.
The Duck Tour – As you wander around the centre of Boston you’ll catch sight of some astonishing vehicles: amphibious craft painted in garish colours and carrying a payload of eager sightseers. These trundle around the various sights of the city, then plunge into the Charles River for a quick ‘once round the bay’. The take off from The Museum of Science and from near the Hynes Centre. Advantages: Extremely efficient front desk, ideal location for power shopping and sightseeing Disadvantages: No ghosts, a/c leaked, staying at Marriott can lead to telephone solicitation later
...though the Marriott had five food concessionaires, the only one I really took advantage of was Starbuck's, which was on the lobby's border with Prudential Center. The coffee and service was little different than what I've dealt with in any other Starbuck's shop in North America, so it always comforting having something that resembles home when traveling long distances. I did notice that Gourmeli's was a very popular place for brunch. The line for a table was quite long on Sunday.
The Prudential Center and Back Bay area of Boston has restaurants all over the place. Among some of those I ate at were Legal Seafood, California Pizza Kitchen, Cheers, and the food court at the Prudential Center. A Shaw's supermarket was across the street from the hotel and it was a good place to go for snacks.

Advantages: Beautiful city, lots to do, small enough to get around Disadvantages: In the USA!
...I find a lot of America brash, sumb and very overrated, but I love Boston. (Probably the snobbery that all us Londoner's have in-built.) In fact, I like it so much I'd be happy to move there, but why?
- I've been to loads of cities in the US and found myself screaming "I want to see a building that's over 30 years old". In Boston there are things as old as 300 years (gosh!)
- You can cycle anywhere without being fumigated. Try back Bay cycles on Newbury street, near Tower Records, for hire.
- You can walk around the place on foot - all the main tourist sites are on "The Freedom Trail" which is marked by a red brick line - dead simple to follow. If you get tired the public transport's great.
- It's all hi-tech and lawyers, loadsamoney - a bit like the Smoke really.
- You can go whale-watching....
