One of the best natural wonders in Europe

Advantages easy to get to, beautiful
Disadvantages dangerous for younger children
I visited the Geysir in February of 2006 and i must say that it one of the most impressive sights i have ever seen. Before you reach the main Geysir you walk through a small area littered with geothermal pools, crystal pools and geysirs. The pools are extremely hot as i discovered the hard way, but apart from being really hot they do not really capture the visitors eye. On the other hand the crystal pools are amazing, they glisten in the sun and almost appear man-made. However the true feature is the Great Geysir itself. At first it seems rather inconspicuous, just another bubbling geothermal pool, but approximately every 2 minutes it starts to swell and then explodes into a 20 metre fountain of water, a truely astonishing sight. The Geysir is also qute easy to access with good roads nearby and there is little walking to do in order to reach the Geysir itself. I would say that this site is a must for anyone visiting Iceland.
