Our worst meal ever in Greece
Advantages: We could leave and buy elsewhere Disadvantages: Just don't go there
We had read about the island before we traveled to Kos and that was one of the main reasons for the holiday, visiting the volcano.
We listened to what the Thomas Cook rep had to say about getting to the island and the trip around and thought it was value for the money they were offering and at the same time a meal was included in the price. Great we thought more time to see rather than looking for somewhere to eat during the day and during the trip. ... ...over to the island was wonderful, tranquil but no dolphins to travel with us.
We had a wonderful tour rep, who came aboard the coach explained where we were going what we would see and just what we could do in our free time. Great. At the same time he asked us all what we would like for lunch, so that it would be ready for us all when we arrived at the restaurant. We all voted and he phoned the order through.
This review is not about the island, ...

PATMOS HOME TO THE CAVE OF THE APOCALYPSE
Advantages: A VERY SPIRITUAL JOURNEY Disadvantages: The cost of the Reps Bus.
...day trip to Patmos.
Patmos Island known by Christians as the Holy Island, lies about a two hour boat trip from Samos.
The crossing was a pleasant two hours of calm water, looking out for Dolphins, but not a Dolphin day, they must have been playing elsewhere.
Suddenly you come across Patmos as it seems to rise out of the crystalline waters, just as in actient myths.
This is the Island of the Apocalypse, The Holy Island of the Aegean.
As our small ... ...will be walking down.
Patmos Island is only 12.5 km long and very narrow. It has about 3000 souls resident.
There are 3 villages Chora (The Port), Skala and Kambos but it is said they have 365 Churches between them.
The monestary must be visited, one for itself and second for the wonderful views from it.
If you manage to be there on a Thursday an Icon painted by El Greco is paraded.
The monestary is a place of Peace and beauty. A brilliance ...

Get Abzorbed in the land of Zorba
Advantages: Everything, Food, swimming, cheap prices, no yobs, weather Disadvantages: Mosquitos
...recently spent a week in Methana on a writing holiday. It is an idyllic spot with the unbelievably blue Aegean sea washing its rocky shores, a climate to die for, superb Tavernas and very few tourists. This is an undiscovered gem so Shh! - Keep it to yourself.
If you want English bars, night clubs, fish and chips and, in the words of Monty Python, Bleedin' Watneys Red Barrel forget it, this is real Greece.
We travelled there from Heathrow, landing ... ...the two hour trip to Methana Town, via the Island of Aegina. Methana is almost an island, there is a narrow ithsmus that joins it to the Peleponese mainland and it is mostly volcanic rocky countryside covered with olive groves, fig trees growing wild and one of the highlights for me were the incredibly cheap, huge watermelons. Unlike the melons you buy in the UK these had a great flavour.
We ate as the Greeks ate, a light breakfast of fruit and ...

Karystos Relatively Unknown Outside Greece
Advantages: Close to Athens airport and unknown paradise. Disadvantages: Discos and tourist facilities thin on the ground
I lived in Karystos for three years and still visit on a regular basis. I got a job there, teaching English, purely on spec. It was one of those accidents that prove you've done something good at some point in the past. I just wish I could remember what!
Karystos is a fishing town at the southernmost point of the island of Evvia. Evvia is actually the second biggest island in Greece, after Crete. This fact is relatively unknown, due to its being ... ...actually a bridge. It hugs the coast of Attica very close to Athens and is loosely classified as one of the Sporiades group of islands. It is also little known because it has no major resorts. At least none which are used by the major package tour companies. Except for Karystos.
Well not except for Karystos actually. A couple of tour companies tried to develop the town in the nineties but it turned out to be just too Greek for your average package ...

49th birthday on Symi.
Advantages: So small and yet so beautiful Disadvantages: No water.
...have read other reviews on Symi and would like to place you in my picture of Symi.
Having travelled to the island twice, not a big island at that to go to twice, but very well worth the time and trouble of getting there.
Our first trip we were met at the harbour and shown to Captain Morgans apartments above the gold shop. You then realise that the roof room is a must for the visitors, if you mention that you have that roof space you get "Oh we ... ...arrived it went again.
Symi is such a peaceful island and if you get the chance to visit would fully reccommend. You have to be aware that they don't have any water on the island so it arrives in the harbour by boat and is then pumped around the island. If the boat is late on water in the taps when you wake up.................so what you have water in the fridge to make a cuppa or visit Yannis he will make you a drink.
The island tour is a must, ...
