Close to Perfection
Advantages: Beaches, people, sea life, snorkelling Disadvantages: Insect bites - just take precautions
I think I've figured it out. The absence of road signs on this stunning Caribbean island is something akin to a cunning job creation scheme. The unsuspecting visitor gets hopelessly lost when venturing more than a couple of hundred yards from the sanctuary of his or her lodgings, throws in the towel and ends up with a dozen strangers cloaked in best got-dressed-in-the-dark, once-a-year tourist garb, on a minibus taking the organised tour. Gosh, there's ... ...jeep has been hired, there will be no shortage of obliging locals willing to act as unofficial guides. When you manage to tune your ears in to the shouts as you pass through a village, all becomes clear. "Horse," yelled one porky fellow, as we sped past, top down, map sticking to reddening knees smeared with sun cream, "Do you want a horse?" I queried this with my wife, Sandra, "What was all that about, we've got a jeep, what would we want with a ...

Caribbean Beaches (reviewed)
Advantages: Maybe The Best Beaches in the World Disadvantages: NONE
This is a overview of the caribbean Islands
What do you imagine the Caribbean to be like?
Before I went I saw pictures in the brochures of deserted beaches with palm trees, lush rain forests, infect just about as close to paradise as you can imagine.
Could it possibly be like this or was it just what the travel agents want us to believe?
Was it going to be worth travelling all that way?
Everyone has there own idea of paradise so all I can do ... ...a little local history.
Setting the scene:
On a Quiet beach in St Lucia fruit seller travels up and down in a tin boat blowing on his sea shell. There are a lot of beach sellers in St Lucia who seem to constantly pester you all the time so my advice is to go to one of the smaller beaches. The taxi drivers are so friendly, they will take you, arrange for them to pick you up at a certain time (believe me they wont let you down) In fact a group of ...

TRUE paradise
Advantages: Unspoilt Paradise Disadvantages: You wont want to leave
If you have previously visited the West Indies, and were slightly dissapointed at the level of tranquility you experienced, this is the place for you.
The other Islands (Barbados in particular) seem to have become victims of their own tourism success. The tiny, lush, green islands have begun to lose their identity, and devote almost everything they have into exploiting the hugely succesful tourist industry in the area. Nothing wrong with that, you ... ...London. A few big hotel complexes can dominate a large percentage of the land, and you would be forgiven for forgetting that these places have history and culture...they are not purpose built for tourists. The true beauty of the West Indies lies in the unspoilt.
If you want to escape the 'Club Tropicana' feel of the over-developed West Indian islands, then Grenada is the place for you. Flying into Grenada, you should be able to get a view of almost ...

Grenada - The Spice Isle
Advantages: Beautiful Beaches - Day trip with Osprey Disadvantages: Night Life - Sand Fly Bites
I went to Grenada to visit relatives but it did not stop me from spending a week living like a tourist. The Spice Isle of the Caribbean is the most beautiful place I have ever had the pleasure to visit. There are some of the most exotic beaches and the nicest people you will ever meet always near-by and ready to help. There isn't much of a nightlife but you should not need a night life because there is so much to do during the day. Day trips and ... ...Island and I advise you steer clear of Siesta.
You can also take a day trip to Carraicou or Petit Martinique twice daily on Osprey, but be warned, if you are inclined to be sea-sick sit downstairs as on the way out it is a very rough ride. I was sea-sick and I've been three times.
Enjoy! ...

Unspoilt paradise
Advantages: hot sun, wonderful natural landscape... Disadvantages: oh oh it's suddenly very dark around here...
I would recommend Grenada as the ideal get-away week break or honeymoon location. I took a small plane from Barbados and spent very little time there but it was amazing. The lush tropical vegatation, waterfalls and natural spices growing everywhere were wonderful.
Beware of electricity blackouts - all part of the charm - and fish restaurants that have run out of fish. On an island this small and surrounded with plentiful waters, this shouldn't be ...
