A Grand Time in the Gresham

Advantages: Luxurious
Disadvantages: Let down with service in some areas

The Gresham Hotel in Dublin has been a landmark in the city since 1817 when Thomas Gresham bought the street. The hotel, situated at 23 Upper O’Connell Street, Dublin, is the Flagship of the Gresham Chain, which includes properties in Dun Loughaire, Cork and Amsterdam.

You can reach the hotel from the airport by catching the ‘imaginatively’ named 747 Airport Bus straight into the city, and the first bus stop is right outside the Gresham, ...
...able to stay in the Gresham for two nights as part of my last EVER residential school for my MBA. (Yay!). I decided to lengthen my stay in Dublin by booking an additional two nights B and B accommodation for myself and hubby to be tagged on in front of my University stay.

Rack rate for the Gresham is a whopping 310Euro per room per night. Ouch. I had been searching for availability on discounted websites for a couple of months, and ... more

Nothing out of the ordinary

Advantages: peaceful, clean
Disadvantages: nothing unusual, poor value for money

...'old style charm' of the Gresham took our fancy and we booked 2 nights in a standard room at the non insubstantial cost of £160 each (not including breakfast or any meals). On arrival we were fairly impressed with the marble entrance hall, sparkling chandeliers, and profusion of conceirge staff in smart outifts. Check in was efficient and we were left to our own devices to find our room. We realised straight away that we had been given the disabled ...
...there were bars to hold onto all over the bathroom. I was disappointed not only that we had been given a room where the shower was virtually unusable, but also that disabled people are given such a poor deal - the room was right at the back of the hotel (overlooking the dustbins) and rather dark and dingy. I'm sure they charge the same for a disabled room, and while I appreciate it was near the lift and had all the kit etc, it was a rare insight ...

Christmas party stopover

Advantages: Luxurious - treat location
Disadvantages: Not great value for money

Eight of us stayed at the hotel in four twin rooms for our Christmas party - a one night stay in the City. We were immediately impressed with the hotel, a stunning Christmas tree greeted us as we entered the hotel. We were quickly checked in, early wake up calls for the morning after booked and into the lift to our rooms. I was a little disappointed with the size of the room - for 150 euros per room, I was expecting more of a gap between the two ...
...A very modern shower, full length mirror and nice freebies. We hadn't taken a hairdryer as it was advertised as having its own - it did, plugged in through the back of a drawer, but girls beware, it only produced cold air so I'd advise you to take your own. We met in the hotel bar where it cost 40 euros for two white wine and sodas, a pint of Guinness and half a lager - you expect high prices in a city like Dublin but I felt this was pushing it ...
