I stayed at Greystones last summer. Im from the area but moved away a long time ago, and had come down to visit relatives.
The building is a large georgian stone townhouse hence its name.

My experience

I rang and booked our room although you can also book on the internet now. I spoke with the owner and they were polite and encouraging while they took my booking. Some places dont make you feel like they are that bothered you are booking with them but the people that run Greystones treat you like friends rather than guests. They asked if we knew where they were, gave directions and said they'd look forward to seeing us when we arrived.

They said they had 9 rooms, all of which are en-suite, and we chose one on the ground floor, which has immediate access to the carpark.

We stayed 2 nights and were pleased with the room, and the breakfast and the cost. At £60 a night for a large double room with comfortable bed, clean bedding and individual design I felt that was very reasonable.

The room had a large wardrobe and book shelf with a selection of books on it. I always like that about a place, it makes you feel more at home and that the owners are renting you one of their own rooms rather than a bog standard travel lodge with no character whatsoever. There was also a colour TV and the bathroom was ensuite. There was also the standard tea and coffee making facilities with some biscuits supplied. Oh and a hairdryer was available in the draw too.

They offered a suitably long period to be able to breakfast, they offered it from 7am until 10.30am both on the saturday and sunday. We were able to choose from a selection of cereals and fresh fruits from a self service area, and then that was followed with a good choice of items including a full english. We both ordered the full english and found it was very generous. 2 large sausages each, bacon, egg cooked the way you wanted it, tomatoes, beans and toast. The landlady also offered us porridge or kippers if we had wanted them.

Location

Greystones address is 152 Hendford Hill, Yeovil, Somerset, BA20 2RG. They are based on the A303. From their own website these are the instructrions to get to them;

Exit from the A303 at the Cartgate roundabout onto the A3088 sign posted Yeovil. At the end of ths road take the third exit at the roundabout. Follow the road directly across next roundabout and continue straight ahead through two sets of traffic lights, past B & Q and Safeway(on your left). At the next roundabout(the horsey roundabout) take the third exit up Hendford Hill (Railway Hotel on your left. Greystones Court is two thirds of the way up the hill on the righthand side before you reach the roundabout at the top of the hill.

From Dorchester follow signs to Yeovil on A37 at the end of the road you will reach a roundabout with The QuickSilver Mail Pub straight in front of you. Take the second exit signed to Yeovil, this is Hendford Hill and Greystones Court is on your left hand side.

Yeovil & Dorchester

Yeovil town centre itself is within walkable distance, it contains the standard selection of highstreet shops, places to eat and drink and usual leisure facilities.

While we were staying at Greystones we took the opportunity to drive down into Dorchester which is only about 20 miles away. I wanted to show my other half Maiden Castle which is an impressive hill fort just outside of Dorchester. Dorchester is definately worth a visit with many cute little tea shops, historic interests such as churches and museums and just generally nice for a few hours to walk around and take it in.
