Advantages: Europe's richest treasure chambers Disadvantages: an overkill of splendour
...The Green Vault (GrünesGewölbe in German) is a must-see for any visitor to Dresden, the capital of Saxony in the east of Germany. It's Europe's most sumptuous treasure chamber, if you haven't heard of it yet, this may be due to the fact that it was hidden behind the Iron Curtain for decades. Before I'm going to take you with me on a tour, I have to tell you three things:
1) There isn't *one* Green Vault, there are *two*.
2) Neither is green
3) Nor a vault in the sense of an underground chamber.
Puzzled? Be patient, everything will become clear eventually.

Advantages: Great arts and history, nice people, great food Disadvantages: Weather (sometimes, still better than most uf the UK ;-)
...of the finest royal art collections in the world), GruenesGewoelbe (if you like Rubens, Duerer, Picasso, Lionardo and the like), Weimar (a 30 minutes drive west of Dresden, great wine there and a neat old town).
Try to talk to the Saxon's while having a great beer in a pub. The guys are very proud of their city and can certainly give you some secret tips too.

If you like to discover this city by foot, try not to go from late October through late February as the weather can get pretty nasty and cold. Other than that, Dresden is well worth a week of pure enjoyment and fun. The people are friendly (English no problem) and the city offers a lot. Maybe you want to take short trip to nearby Prague...

...impressive (and most ugly) sight the"Völkerschlachtdenkmal", a 90m high monument from 1913 that remembers of the battle of nations in 1871.
Dresden
Is named as "Elbflorenz" (Florence of the North) the cultural highlight of Saxony. It is really worth a visit. The baroque Zwinger, The Semperoper (opera), the Town Hall, the promenade "Brühlsche Terasse" with view to the river "Elbe" and other baroque buildings form a unique historic ensemble in the city centre. Mentionable is the "Fuerstenzug" a big mural picture from ceramic tiles from Meissen porcelain.
The museum "GrünesGewölbe" (Green Vault)" in the "Albertinum" displays a very fine of collection of jewels and other precious objects. The other worth visiting museum is the Old Masters Gallery, with works of old masters including the Sistine Madonna from Rafael. The hygiene...
