The summer holidays are here, well 4 more weeks to go hoooray! anyway, i always find it hard come the holidays trying to figure out what i'm going to do with my 5 year old daughter to keep her occupied and out of trouble!! after a few days out already we decided to try Gullivers World in Warrington, which is roughly 25 minutes away from where we live, we set off early (about 9:15am, the park opens at 10:30 am) so thought we had plenty of time to get there, unfortunately we got lost ending up driving around Warrington town centre for 20 minutes trying to find any signs to point us in the right direction! luckily, by pure chance we drove up some main road and spotted a sign, so 10 minutes later we arrived at the park, spot on 10:30am, there was quite a few people there already, so the queue to get in wasn't too bad, the prices were reasonable, £9:99 each, altho children under 90cm get in for free and OAP's get in for a £1 cheaper. The only thing that was slightly dissappointing was the fact there wasn't anywhere to sit down and have a good breakfast, so my advice is eat before you leave.
As you walk in through main entrance, theres a small stage area with one of the parks characters and a entertainer dancing and singing, getting the small kids into the spirit, although my daughter was alittle shy at first (miserable so and so lol) so we decided to
take a walk round and find our bearings, we ended up in Adventure World first, the first ride called the Wild Mine Ride which almost knocks your teeth out (beware you people with lose dentures!) the tree top swings is fantastic, seats abit uncomfortable but great ride altogether if you like the mellow type, tomb raider ride lets you use toylaser guns to shoot the targets, watch out, some are sneaky and shoot water at you if your unlucky to hit the target! We then went onto Count castle, where you'll find the Haunted Ghost house, you walk round this house going up and down stairs and looking into windows of scary senarios, unfortunately we had a group of screaming kids behind us which made us jump more than what was actually in the house, when you come out across from the Haunted House is the bumper cars (whats scary about them?) and a mini merry go round ride, and also a food court.
By this time we were abit peckish so decided to sit down for a break and have a hotdog each and drink (which cost £9 odd) for 3 of us, abit pricey if you ask me. We then went onto Smugglers Wharf which houses the Pirate Ship, Antelope (roller coaster), the pirate ship was good, although the little un wasn't so sure, we didn't get to go on the Antelope apart from the queue being almost 3 miles long (ok, abit OTT) but my daughter wasn't so keen, even after experiencing the ride that almost takes your teeth or dentures out, so we ended up in circus world, where you can sit down in another food court, or have your kids faces painted, theres clown school which is on at certain times of the day, and is full of small rides for the younger children.
Next stop was Western World, like a scene from your average cowboy western film, small area for kids to run around and tire themselves out (yay!) a train ride that goes as slow as you like and has the smallest track known to man, and another roller coaster type ride (mini), gift shop, another food court, it even has a jail, but no locks on the bars (ahh well) otherwise i'd have been tempted and done a runner...
Then we went onto to Alices Wonderland, which didn't have much to be honest, couple of rides and crazy mirrors etc.
We ended up back at the main entrance so decided to have some dinner at Gullivers Travels Restaurant, didn't have anything special, 2 chips and fish and a kids meal which cost us £21, which i thought was too much considering the portions, for that price you'd expect the dinner to be served on a gold plate!,the woman serving was on her own, and didn't seem to have a clue really, and the till oddly doesn't accept card payment, so if you hand your card over to pay she has to go across to the other shop to put it through, and with no one else helping out on counter, doesn't look good when you have a long queue of people waiting to be served, on a good note, the bread was free so not all bad...erm yeah :S
As you come out of the Restaurant across from there is the Gullivers world mini train, which takes you around the Lost World (Dinosaurs) which consists of huge plastic dinosaurs amongst the bushes with some rather strange roaring sounds and funny signs saying something along the lines of 'real dinosaurs, do not feed' Yeah like i'd be stupid enough to put my hands in! hehe
In all, it was a good day, plenty of things for the kids to do aswell as the adults, park isn't too big so is easy enough to get round a few times in the day if you've missed anything, your probably best getting there early and going on the more popular rides first thing to avoid waiting in the queues later on (40 minutes we waited for the log flume) although the food is abit pricey in the park, alot of people did take their own lunches as theres plenty of nice spots to sit and eat, they do have lockers you can use to keep your lunch or any valuables etc by main entrance or your able to nip out to your car to get your lunch (only one person per party and you have to have your hand stamped to get back in). If you not keen on taking your own food, my own opinion would be to try the food court in the Counts castle area which do some cheap meal deals for 2/3 or 4 people, or the food court in the Circus World and the Lost World which does pizzas, burgers chips the lot.
Great day out for the small kiddies, reasonably priced entrance fee and we got a voucher on way out to admit up to 4 people on certain dates for £5 each (bargin) for any offers your best looking up their website for special dates and rates etc.
