Lovely place in rural Gambia where we experienced a real African Holiday. The logde, as it is now called instead of Motel, is perfectly located on the beach of the village of Gunjur. The area is unspoilt and nearby is the colourful fishing village with loads of activity, boats, people and fish. Very interesting to see how the daily life is there.

The lodge has 8 rooms, so very intimate but spacious. There is a big garden and a small bush to wander through. The beach is just endless and there are covered beach huts with beds and real thick matrasses. Makes it even more better! The sunsets are amazing and every day when we were out we wanted to be back in time to see the sun go down.

The rooms are basic but very clean and everything was there what we needed. Clean bed linnen & towels, en-suite bathroom with shower. The water is very hot during the day and luke warm in the evenings as the watertank is heated by the sun. They run on solar, so they are eco-friendly. Sometimes the lights went out during the evening, so bring a tourch. The lovely manager, Nolleke, said they would improve their solar system before the end of 2006.

The staff are wonderful and so was the breakfast and the food. There is a chill atmosphere and almost everything was possible. We went out on a local fishing boat, wandered around in the remote area and villages, visited the nearby wetland, went to the villages of Gunjur, Kartong, Brikama and Banjul. Passed through the busy resorts (we were so glad we did not book a hotel there as was the initial plan). Made a fantastic boat trip through the creeks and to the mouth of the river Gambia (booked through reception and something everybody shoud do, even if you not stay in the lodge).

What we also enjoyed was the drumming lessons we took from Musa N'Dure who is one of the staff at the lodge. The last night we had a session around the campfire. Magical.

All in all a wonderful holiday to be repeated, hopefully next year.
