Well I am sure many of you have read my previous op on the H10 Med Village I stayed in in Salou. This was my second experience of staying in another Group H10 Hotel.
We visited La Nina in Costa Adeje just two weeks ago so everything about this hotel is fresh in mind.
On arrival to the hotel I thought it was a bit odd. Stuck in the middle of the main street with shops practically attached to the hotel and underneath it on a lower floor. Going into the reception area you just couldn't help but be amazed though. This looked like a classy hotel. Marble everywhere, a large reception desk on the right hand side, a large seating area and a massive winding stair case going down to the lower floor. Going in to the reception/entrance to the hotel you are going straight in on floor four. There are a total of 10 floors in this hotel.
Reception and booking in was quick, straight forward and staff very polite and helpful. You are given a 'passport' for the hotel so show you are a guest there. This need to be presented at meal times. You are also given a ticket which allows free entrance to the casino attched to the H10 GranTenerife which is about 15-20 minutes walk from La Nina. Also given a booklet of useful info about the hotel and a pool towel ticket which could be exchanged at the pool for a towel and on the return you get another ticket which again you can exchange again the next day or when you needed it. Word of warning, don't loose these tickets, they will charge you 15 euros! The key to your room is like a credit card which they also give you when you book in.
So all checked in off we went to find our room. We were only floor six, only two floors up from reception. Once in the room the only way to have electricity was to put your keycard into the slot on the wall. A very good idea in my opinion so people don't leave lights on a waste electricity! The room was massive (we had a double room) with two single beds pushed together (even though I call them single they were much bigger than single beds, both of them pushed together was bigger than our king size bed!), bedside cabinets, a large desk and

tv unit, mini bar (empty), tv and very large wardrobes. The room also has a saftey deposit box which you pay 15euros for and 10euro deposit which you get back when you return the key on your last day. The bathroom was very large as well, again all marble and a basket of free H10 goodies (shower gel, shaving kits, soaps, combs, etc). The balcony was spacious with a table and chairs which looked like they were brand new. On the side there was plenty of reading material...mini bar list, a magazine on the H10 group, list of TV channels, a folder containing H10 writing paper, envelopes and a pen. There was also an internet point in the room if you had a laptop. Air conditioning is standard in all rooms in this hotel. Again this would only work when your key card was in and the balcony door is shut. As soon as you open the balcony door it turned itself off. The only thing I could fault with the room was in a few areas the wallpaper was coming away but that was it. The room was perfect apart from that. It was spotlessly clean as well. There was an entertainment team at the hotel which had a board up which lists activities for everyday. There was a good selection, rifle shooting, pistol shooting, water polo, archery etc. We didn't do any of the hotels activities it was mainly geared up for the Spanish and Germans, althought the entertainment team did speak English. There wasn't manly English in this hotel at all. Most of the people staying here were definately German or Spanish. Another reason we didn't do the activities was that there was so much happening around the area there was simply no need to stay in the hotel all of the time. There was also a daisy mini club for the children which they also had activities going on each day and a mini disco each evening. There were not many children staying at the hotel when we went, but then it was September.
Outside there was a pool table, french bowls area, a large seating area for the evening entertainment and a small stage. There was a bar and a pool side bar close by. The pool area was a reasonable size, and plenty of sun loungers though if the hotel was full I think it would struggle to cope. The pool was nice and clean and there are two Jacuzzi's next to the pool as well. The pool is divided into two by a bridge and one half can be heated during winter months. There is also a smaller childrens pool.
The hotel also has a gym right down on the first floor but there was next to nothing in there, just a handful of machines so I don't really know if you could call it a gym. They also had a few table tennis tables and two squash courts if you fancied a game!
Down to the third floor was a large resturant which you could also go and sit in an outside eating area from there. The hotel is Half board and Full Board Basis. We were half board but with so many different places around the area to eat we wanted to try out a couple of local places. Luckily you can change your dinner to lunch, all you have to do is let reception know before 9pm the night before. Meal times were generally okay at the La nina. Every thing is buffet style. Breakfast had everything you could possibly want. Bacon, eggs, beans, mushrooms etc etc all your usual cooked brekkie. Toast, cereals, breads and rolls, tea, coffee, juices, fresh fruit, crossoints and other pasteries, loaf cake, dried fruits, yoghurts and a large selection of meats and cheeses. If there wasn't something there you liked I think you would must be a very fussy eater. The choice was endless. Breaskfast was from 07.30 for all you early risers up until 10.30am. Lunch time meals were the same as evening dinner only the dining area was not so crowded. Desserts were less at lunch time but then I found that you didn't want to eat that much during the day anyway so that wasn't really a problem. A waiter would take orders for drinks both lunch and evening meals once you had found yourself a table and you would pay on your way out of the resturant. I have to admitt I was impressed with their huge salad bar on offer, various meats, cheeses, pasta and salads as well as all of your sauces like salad cream, mayo etc. They always looked beautiful but I am always wary myself of eating salads abroad incase the food has been washed in their own water as I am prone to getting ill on holiday! Dishes were pretty much the same each day, mainly catering for the Sapanish, which was nice to try and there was always a lot of fish on the menu each day, which if your not a fish lover then that could be a small problem. If you are a veggie that too also limits you choice of meals, I felt pasta with a sauce was the only other option which is rather limited. I wasn't so impressed with dinner and lunch. The desserts were fine, plenty of cakes and pasteries, ice cream, yoghurts and fresh fruit. The other bad thing about meal times at La Nina was that it was very disorganised. When we stayed in the other H10 there was a proper system to line up for the food. Without sounding like we should line up like getting school dinners, everyone just pushed and shoved without any kind of system and it was quite messy. Sometimes they had cards up to say what the food was in about three different languages, other times they didn't so you could get yourself food and not know what it was. I found that frustrating. All of these little things didn't make a bad holiday, they are just a couple of things which they could improve on. Lunch time was from 13.00 to 15.30 and dinner was from 19.30 to 22.30.
Also down on the 3rd floor when you come out of the resturant there was another large seating area, and internet section with three pcs for anyone wanting to use the net. There was also a table tennis table, couple of pool tables and a couple of game machines. On the same floor the hotel has it's own hairdressers if you fancied popping along to get ready for night on the town!
Room service gets 10/10 for me. Our maid was excellent, came in every day and cleaned. Sheets changed twice a week, towels as and when you requested (H10 use the system of towels in the bath means 'plse change', towels on the rail means 'i'll use again') We were sitting on the balcony one day when the maid came in and she didn't just flit around the room with a duster, she gave the room a thorough cleaning. Again, very polite and friendly staff. Cleaning starts for 09.00-16.00, if you wanted to be left alone just stick you do not disturb sign on your door and you will be left until you remove it or change it to the 'room ready to be serviced' side!
Like i mentioned earlier about entertainment, there was something going on each night at the hotel. We stayed in only on the first night because we were tired because of delayed flights and watched the band that was playing. They were good. Each night there was a different act on, I always had a look on the board to see what was happening that evening. It varied from the band, to a snake show, a magician just to name a few.
As mentioned briefly before the pool area is lovely if you want to chill out and have a swim. There is a pool side bar which serves drinks and snacks throughout the day. If the pool isn't your thing the beach of Purteo Colon is litterally a 2 minute walk and going out through the gate at the back of the hotel with your keycard it was even quicker!
We went out everynight to resturants and bars. There certainly are plenty around the area. If you walk down to the beach there are shops, bars and resturants in the Purteo Colon area, or you could walk to Playa De Las Americas (a good 40-45 min walk if you go along the seafront) or you could go the other way further into Costa Adeje where you are greeted with another, larger amount of shops, resturants and bars. There is even a club right underneath La Nina if you don't want to walk far which is open until 6am. Don't worry though you certainly can't hear it in the hotel. Even though there are plenty of bars and resturants around you will not be distrubed at night time. We found the area busy enough but not busy enough to keep you awake half the night. To be honest we didn't venture into Playa at night time at all, just a couple of times in the day. We really didn't feel there was the need. The hotel really is in a supurb location.
If you go with an operator (we didn't, at the moment there aren't any companys like thompson or jmc etc which go to this hotel from the uk) don't buy their expensive trips. There are loads of places selling trips around the area and down by the beach of Purteo Colon. I'd reccomend Butterfly booking agency who we booked with and didn't try and give you the hard sell act (Michael).
We made our way to the hotel by taxi from the airport, it took no longer than 10-15 mins and cost no more than 20Euros for each trip. There was a taxi rank about a minutes walk from La Nina and the taxis were always on hand anywhere around the area if you got fed up of walking!
The hotel to me was fantastic really. Apart from my little gripes about the meals. The staff were 100% committed to customer care and couldn't do enough for you. It does have the added bonus of only being two years old so everything is still pretty new. The hotel was totally spotless all of the time which is always a major plus with me. The location is brilliant, plenty to do at the hotel if you want it, plenty to do outside of the hotel if you prefer, without being too 'in your face'. If your looking for a drinking / clubbing holiday this hotel won't be for you, you would be better off staying in Playa. This is more for families and couples. There was two of us aged 24 and 26 and loved staying at La Nina.
We paid £210 each for a week. Personally I think that is very reasonable for half board basis in a four star hotel. We booked from teletext but you can book direct with the hotel through their web page.
Would I go back again? 100% yes.
I will try and get some piccies up here soon so you can see exactly what I am saying is so great!
If you wanted to look it up take a look at www.h10.es
The hotel has 226 double rooms (11 junior suites)
Have added some pictures so you can see what I mean about a lovely hotel!
