Whilst there are many things to do in Salou itself i plan to inform you of the good the bad and the downright ugly points of staying at the hotel Salou princess
Having already been to Salou in may with my sister i am just going to add a little section about disco's which is where we spent most of our evening, there are at least 10 different discothèques that you can go to that play a range of music, we mainly went to Papillion an underground club that played cheesy euro pop and it was fab
Entertainment in the hotel wasn't much to write home about, It was mainly in Spanish and very repetitive lots of Spanish singers, also because the hotel is frequented in the evening by elderly Spanish couples who have a penchant for ballroom dancing and that's how it went every night the elderly couples would strut their stuff and there was nothing for others to do, so myself and mum hopped just across the road to robin hood's karaoke where we sang and seeing as its a British run bar it was so welcoming i missed the bar more than anything else when we left i would highly recommend it also port aventura which is the biggest theme park in Europe is well worth going to but with tickets at 30 euros it would be worth looking around for a good deal
Firstly upon arriving from your designated coach to the front of the hotel, you are greeted with one of the nicest hotel entrances i have ever seen, an entrance of plain glass windows that open automatically as you approach, this of course is a very good idea- because everyone know that ones that you have to push aren't very safe after a few jugs of sangria-trust me my sister has a scar on her head to prove this, so you can rest assured that there will be no bumping into doors - they open for you
Three separate escalators take you to where you want to go, so you won't get the usual everyone squished into one life and the person next you has a strange smelling body odour, sorry i digress
Outside there is a large pool area with a fountain and a separate baby section which is shallow and also cordoned off so your little ones are very safe, the poolside bar is open mostly all day but closes two hours before the dining area opens which is a little awkward if you just want a little snack to tide you over
The rooms generally are small but it doesn't need to be huge because its just a half board hotel- having said that a fridge would be a welcome addition but you have to pay a charge for that which is probably a good investment if you wanted to keep your drinks cold, We had a room with two single beds which myself and my mum pulled apart lol we didn't want to sleep together, the maids (who come along everyday and are very chirpy even if we didn't understand a word they said) had other ideas because everyday of our two week stay we returned to our room only to find that the maids had pushed our beds back together which was mildly annoying But i was impressed that they folded my pyjamas each time and put them on my pillow, it obviously wasn't something they had to do but they still did which was a nice touch
Reception staff are extremely nice there are a wide range of multi lingual staff, but only one actually English receptionist, so its advisable that whilst the others may be able to help you in some capacity, i would recommend waiting for the English receptionist who would understand your needs completely- I had to spend 15 minutes looking through my phrase book all to request another pillow
The restaurant could either be the best place you've ever eaten or the bane of your life, Food is served in time slots
Breakfast is 7-10 Lunch is 12-3 And dinner is 7-10
We partook in both breakfast and dinner as it was included in the price of our package holiday
Breakfast mainly consisted of bacon eggs, tomatoes and general English fry up fare (plus chips but I have no idea what that was all about), now this for a couple of days is fine but what if you wanted something a little more healthy well herein lies the problem you actually don't have any other options so breakfast become extremely monotonous and also loses its appeal especially when you don't want to eat stodge, but I do recommend the gorgeous selection of fresh fruit that they have available which I could not find fault with, you could choose from peaches-bananas-apples-pineapples-even figs and such like
Dinner, obviously they try to appeal to everyone and I have to admit that I could always find something to eat, my mother on the other hand had a few hiccups she isn't a fussy eater naturally but she did inform me that she had reservations eating something that didn't describe what it was it was more of a picture it charade game, it was sometimes tough to tell whether the picture of the animal above the dish was actually cow or dog, you see the problems we could have here.
On the last note I would like to bring up fish night which occurred twice in two weeks, if you like fish you would love it but I am not fond of fish, and so a fish night wasn't exactly having me salivating, but I assumed I would be able to find something to eat WRONG Everything was fish, the soup even the salad, I could not find one item on the buffet table that did not contain some kind of crustacean, this I have to say was the worst thing about the hotel
So my last comment would be that the fish night and breakfast marred what could have been the best hotel i had stayed in
