Advantages: Heated pool, central location, evening meal was fabulous Disadvantages: Poor service, poor breakfast
Myself and my husband found a great deal for a weekend away at Hacknessgrangehotel in Scarborough so we decided to give it a whirl. It is a 3 star so we didn't expect the ritz.
We were upgraded to a courtyard room- it was small, dingy and smelt of damp. Also members of staff were smoking outside our room so the room smelt of cigarette fumes. But the shower was fantastic!
The pool was lovely and warm and we had it all to ourselves for a good hour. The gardens were lovely aswell.
Food- the evening meal was fantastic, if you want a good meal then this was the place (£25 for 3 courses). I would recommend this place for dinner. Breakfast on the other hand was awful- one day the food was barely cooked and the next the chef was just making up the orders as he went along or the waitresses were sending to the wrong tables. The hotel was offering some special offers last month so me and my boyfriend decided to stay there for the weekend when visiting London. It has an ideal location. We went down by train and it's only about 15 minutes walk from Euston station, or a few bus stops away. We arrived early so we left our luggage and was told to get back after 2. The lobby is not huge but nicely decorated. There is an Egyptian sculpture next to the lift, kind of like a replica of those you see in museum, quite special.
Again I have to praise its location. It didnot take us long before we reached New Oxford street by foot. Bear in mind it was January when the sale was still going on-I could start my shopping straightaway. We got back after lunch and the room was ready. It's a double room with a king size bed. The room is quite spacious with a plasma TV ...
Advantages: Amazing, all round Disadvantages: None!
This hotel is undoubtedly the best I have ever stayed in. Here's why...
We booked this hotel as a top secret hotel through lastminute.com, paying £86 for the room for the night of Saturday 26th Septmeber 2009. For anyone who isn't familiar with lastminute's top secret system you basically get a star rating and description, but not the name of the hotel before you book. However, for London hotels if you put the description into Google you can easily find out which one matches the description, so we knew what we were getting before we booked.
We arrived by Tube from King's Cross station to St. Paul's Underground station. From here the hotel is fairly easy to find. Just follow the signs for the cathdral then look for Godliman Street on the other side of the cathedral and you can't miss it. The transport links to the hotel are good ...
