A great conference venue but not ideal as a hotel

Advantages: Good rooms, well organised conference facilities
Disadvantages: If you aren't there for a conference, you could feel very 'left out'.

minutes. I spent very little time in my room but was pleased with the massive improvement compared to the previous year's conference venue. Some people were allocated fabulous rooms in the old part of the hotel and I did rather kick myself for missing out on that opportunity although I still liked my standard bedroom. If you were to consider Ettington for a weekend away in Stratford and the Cotswolds, I'd seriously suggest to ask if they have one of the rooms in the old building available - and pay a little more if you have to. The Principal Hayley chain who own Ettington seem to be sending me promotional emails every few days at the moment so I'm guessing that they are desperate and the deals you can get are excellent. That's the problem with being a conference venue in the middle of a recession. The only thing that I really didn ...

Ramada Hotel and Conference Center,

Advantages: large selection of conference rooms for businesses
Disadvantages: no entertainment for those not in a conference,

I stayed at the Ramada Hotel and Conference Center, Edmonton, for 18 days in October. The stay was not a comfortable one. The check in counter was lined up upon arrival, and always appears to be lined up. The Elevators are ODD. You never know what will happen when you get in one when it finally shows up at your floor. The beds are hard. I was put on a waiting list for a fridge and in the 18 days never received a fridge. The wireless internet was unstable, sometimes allowing me to hook up, sometimes shutting down in the middle of an email. It advertised as wireless but I had to use the cable the majority of the time. There is only two washers and two dryers (that take up to two hours to dry one load), which seems inadequate for the number of rooms in the hotel. The staff at the front desk and the restaurant are somewhat unprofessional ...

Eyam Hall

Advantages: Historical feast of beauty
Disadvantages: none

Eyam Hall is situated in the small village of Eyam, (pronounced Eem) in Derbyshire, it can be found nestled behind an 8 foot stone wall, opposite the 'old stocks' on the village green. How to get there?.? You can reach Eyam via theA623 from Stoney Middleton, or the B6521 from Sheffield. There is also a bus which takes you to the village centre. The 66 Chesterfield-Buxton, the X67 bus from Chesterfield. , the 65 bus from Sheffield and the 173 bus from Bakewell. When is it open?? It is open Easter Sunday and Easter Monday 12:00 until 6:00 pm and spring bank holiday Sunday/Monday from 12:00 until 6:00 pm. Also, from the 2nd July until 31st August it is open on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursday, (including Bank Holiday Mondays) from 12:00 until 6:00 pm. The craft shop being open daily. The entrance cost? Gardens ...
