The last of our northern Iranian hotels was in Hamadan, one of the most ancient cities in Iran which dates back to 3000 BC. It's quite a high altitude city at 1850 m about sea level, but that's nothing compared to the mountains nearby which reach their highest peak at over 3500 m. It's a big place with a population of more than half a million people and if you're a tourist it has a pretty bizarre bunch of unusual attractions.
