Over the years there have been a variety of unusual attractions such as wild animals (with, believe it or not, a bear!) and a boating waterway.
I have been a visitor to the park over the last fifty years and seen many changes, I used ... ...after opening leaving poor old Happy Mount Park with just a few remnants of weird buildings.
Today the attractions in the park cater for the modern family, but still leave parts of the park where visitors can have the peace and tranquillity of a traditional park.

Morecambe is rather a sad little town in Northern England that is trying desperately to regain some of its past popularity in the tourist industry.

Happy Mount Park was originally created in the 1920s as a traditional urban park. Over the years there have been a variety of unusual attractions such as wild animals (with, believe it or not, a bear!) and a boating waterway.
I have been a visitor to the park over the last fifty years and seen many changes, I used to love the illuminations that were held their up to the 1980's, I was less impressed with the short time that the park was turned into Crinkly Bottom by Noel Edmunds in 1994. Thirteen weeks later,due to a lack interest in Noel's Bottom, the bottom fell out of the crinkle and the World of Crinkley Bottom closed in 1994, just 13 weeks after opening leaving poor old Happy Mount Park with just a few remnants of weird buildings.
Today the attractions in the park cater for the modern family, but still leave parts of the park where visitors can have the peace and tranquillity of a traditional park.
The activities and amenities in the park include play areas, Victorian swing boats, a crown green bowling green, 18 hole putting green, a miniature railway, miniature golf, trampolines, crazy golf, children's roundabout, and a floodlit multi-purpose sports surface for tennis, basketball, five-a-side football or roller hockey.
There is also an indoor play area (Pirates in the Park) in the café building. This is decorated with a pirate theme, and incorporates the Galleon Bouncy Castle, and climbing activity and soft play areas, with a separate area for toddlers. The pirate's area is open every day of the year except Christmas Day and specialises in children's birthday parties with catering facilities.
The Café in the Park is open 7 days a week. And serves home cooked hot and cold meals, cakes and snacks.
The newest attraction in the park and by far the most popular with the younger members of the family on a hot summer's day is the Splash Park. This is a children's play area with water jets, buckets and fountains were children can spend hours running in between the jets of water and getting lovely and wet. There are ample picnic tables around the area and a little refreshment kiosk selling hot and cold drinks, ice creams and sandwiches. Taking a picnic to the Splash Park is a great inexpensive day out as entrance to the park and Splash Park is free.
As well as these activities there are a number of gardens including a Japanese garden and traditional formal gardens to walk through and enjoy.
The woodland walk appeals to the senses of smell and touch and attracts wildlife.
Signboards for birds and pond life are around the park pointing out where different species of birds, insects etc can be seen.
Access has been improved to make the park more wheelchair friendly.
Throughout the summer 'Bands in the Park' is held on Sundays at 2.30pm where you can sit and listen to local brass bands.
The park is very much a traditional park where people of all ages can sit and relax or have a pleasant walk in attractive gardens.
