My next review is on the SydneyHarbour Bridge, which is perhaps one of the most iconic monuments in Sydney, if not the whole of Australia. The Bridge is the main thing that stands out when you first arrive in Sydney, its like their gateway into and out of the City, and with its sheer size, its something that people should take the time to look at up close and personal.
History:
The bridge has a long history, original plans to create the bridge started in the late 1890?s however construction didn?t actually start until the mid 1920?s. The bridge?s total length is a mammoth 1149 metres (3,770 ft), and according to the World Records book the bridge has the tallest arch steel frame measuring 134 meters (429.6 ft)
The bridge is accessible by many modes on transport which include, train, car toll, and walking. The bridge connects two main ...
Advantages: Fantstic views, sense of real achievement Disadvantages: Quite pricy, need to book
over the side if you want to see the cars below you.
I am not sure if there is a minimum age to do this - I have a feling it might be 16 for insurance reasons and there is no upper age limit - apparently a year ago a 100 year old lady climbed it.
If you are in Sydney then you must do this. It is not widely publised although we found the details for this in the Lonley Planet book and in our hotel. The staff are all lovely and don't pressure you into joining in if you don't want to. The bridgeclimb is situated in the Rocks Area of Sydney and although pricey this is definatley one exercusion that you should definatley build into your financing.
The feeling of a cold beer to celebrate is amazing if not a little frightening as you then see everyone doing it and realise that they look like little ants on the top of the bridge. ...
Advantages: Fantastic rooms, friendly staff, great location Disadvantages: some of the other guests seem to think their a bit special!
I've stayed at this hotel twice now, once when i was 10 with my mum and dad and once when i was 20 with my boyfriend, both times i've had a fantastic time and the only negative thing being other guests there, but we'll get to that later in the review!
Accomodation:
The hotel has 173 rooms, this is made up of 93 standard rooms which are the cheapest and have either twin or a kingsize bed, an ensuite bathroom usually with a bath and a shower. A kettle and small sachets of tea coffe, milk etc and some very delicious biscuits! A mini bar (as with most hotels this is a little on the pricey side e.g £1.20 for a mars bar!!!!) a safe, an ironing board and hairdryer, a phone, internet access and Sky TV and the usual pre pay movies as well as pre pay games for the playstion. These rooms are mostly at the back of the hotel and look out over ...
