Location and History. The Hard Rock Cafe in London is situated at Hyde Park Corner. It was formerly a Rolls Royce dealership. 150 Old Park Lane to be precise. This is the original Hard Rock Cafe, there are now hard rocks all over the world. I have been in this one and also the one in Dublin. 138 in total. They now also have a hotel chain too.
The are all basically the same with artefacts of rock stars past and present adorning the walls and floors. The centre piece of the London one is a Harley Davidsonmotorcycle downstairs behind the bar. I always go to the downstairs bar as im a life memberof HOG (Harley Owners Group) this gives you a kind of VIP status as you never normally have to queue to get in. The owner normally has his Harley parked outside by the entrance adorned in Hard Rock paintwork.
Recently the cafe has expanded into the nearby building which now houses the shop where you can purchase memorabilia such as pin badges, glasses and t shirts. Every visit i have made here has been with my motorcycle chapter, Thames Valley HOG. Travelling with them means we get to park our bikes up on the pavement outside the cafe so we dont have far to walk.
Menu. The menu is mainly burgers, chips etc. But you cant say you have been to a hard rock untill you have had the hickory smoked pulled pork sandwich which is there speciality. It is basically a heavily marinated sandwich with a strong taste of vinegar, an aquired taste but the bikers favourite. The nacho portion is immense and although it is seved as a starter you can quite easily make it into a meal or share it quite comfortably between 2 or 3 people. Drinks can be served in a Hard Rock commemerative glass or in a normal glass. If you have the commemerative one you pay extra but can keep the glass. It is fully licenced. The service is always friendly and with a smile but as it gets so busy you may have to wait a while. It is popular with bikers, rock fans and is also family friendly.
Fantastic Atmosphere. The atmosphere is great and there is always rock music playing with music videos shown continuously on large screens around the place. It is Eric Claptons favourite restaurant and he donated his guitar, this is still here and what started the collections of musicians memorabilia.
The website www,hardrockcafe.com is worth looking up as there are often special events on and the menu and opening hours are to be found here. I thoroughly recommend the cafe and have never had bad service or a bad meal.
The only problem i can think of it is that there is not much parking available locally for those driving a car but as it is in London there is adequate public transport available.
