Location: The cafe (restaurant) is just off of Hyde Park Corner. Nearest tube is Hyde Park Corner (Piccadilly Line - 8 min walk) or Green Park (Picadilly line, Victoria Line & Jubilee line - 8 min walk). Parking for cars is difficult during the day (and is within the Congestion Zone) but better in the evening. Buses (many routes) stop close by.
Is it for me you ask?: If you like peace and quiet with very quick efficient top class service, then DONT GO. If you like Rock music (light and heavy) with it playing so you can hear it, watching rock stars play on the tv screens, you're onto a winner, because thats what you get. Reasonably child friendly as well (just dont head bang too much).
Food & Drink: Burgers, chips (ok. fries then), big portioned deserts, beers, wines & cocktails. The usual selection of things. If your a vegetarian they have a limited choice but it is possible to eat!
Staff: The service can vary depending on how busy they are.
Ambience: It gets very busy at all sorts of times. The throng of Americans & tourists shows its a MUST for them, hence the BIG queues sometimes. (See below to JUMP the QUEUE).
Shop: Right opposite the cafe is their shop selling various items of clothing, shot glasses & Pin Badges. Have a close look at them. There is a big market for buying and selling the badges. Many badges are limited edition at each cafe. Your £8 badge today could be double in a years time! They also have the Vault! No its not full of money, but is full of pop memento's. This is viewable by a guided tour, and its FREE. Yes, its worth while going into after eating.
VITAL STATISTICS: Do you visit Hard Rocks elsewhere? If you're a regular visitor to them then get some MONEY BACK and JUMP the QUEUE!!! How? Its simple. Order on line or buy from the shop an..... ALL ACCESS card. Its not a credit card, think of it as a BONUS card. It costs about £14.99. (www.hardrockcafe.com)
Quite simply one of its best features is you can JUMP the QUEUE, at ANY hard rock in the world. Turn up, go to the front of the queue, show the card and you get the NEXT available table to come free (other All Access card holders in front will go first though and I've rarely found anyone in front with one).
I went to London a few months ago. The queue was +30 deep (agghhh). Walked past them all, showed my card to the staff, was shown straight inside, given a pager & let loose on the bar. Within 10 mins I was at my table.
A DISCOUNT of 10%: You also get EITHER 10% of the bill total added to the card, which mounts up and can be used as a credit against a future meal or, if the cafe is a franchise, you get 10% off the bill. (Some cafes are franchises. You'd never really know until you come to use the card. Dublin is a Franchise and you'll get 10% off the bill). There is no time limit to use it in at present.
Quite simply the All Access Card (Plastic, credit card sized with a picture of a flameing guitar on) will very quickly pay for itself.
So there you have it. Discounts and queue jumping, all legit!
(Want a bit of extra European info: Go to the Hard Rock in Copenhagen, Denmark. There the staff dance to certain songs on the tables & bar. Probably the only place in the world they do it. No hope for the UK, all that Health & Safety.... they'd run out of cotton wool).

Have to say that I wasn't at all impressed with the one here in Pittsburgh. The food was unexceptional, the atmosphere was annoying, and the wait staff were constatly pulled away for floor shows. The service was terrible and my forgotten order of a lousy cheeseburger took over an hour to hit the table, by which time everyone was finished. I can't recommend them, but I'm glad to hear you had a good time at your local... wishing you laughter
