Whilst in North Yorkshire last week we decided to visit this attraction as we have previously omitted visiting it on other occasions, so we drove up to the gate in our car and simultaneously gasped at the £12.50 entry each! (this is for a freedom ticket which allows you access to all areas, house and grounds). We decided as we really wanted to see the house we would just swallow hard and pay up for the entry. (£25 cash)

We quickly parked and went straight to the main house, our mouths salivating for the experience promising to be found inside the building and we werent to be disappointed.
We opted for the personal audio guide rather than the guided tour and started off walking in a clockwise tour of the house. Lord Harewood talks you through each room and explains the finer details of the rooms and the history of every piece of furniture in the place as well as drawing your attention to small details that you may otherwise miss if you were on your own, you can get further details on the art work in each room by pressing optional buttons on the audio guide.
Each room is fascinating but the restored four poster bed along with the old masters in the gallery were the high spots for me as well as the personal photos of various royals distributed throughout the place. I sat and marvelled at the El Greco above the fireplace for over 30 minutes as well as many other lovely pictures in the gallery, sadly eventually getting up to continue the tour.
The downstairs exhibition of the servants' quarters is equally fascinating and although less in scale/grandour than upstairs it was nevertheless as engaging. The memorabalia was fascinating and I was intrigued to study the contents of the cabinets which give a vivid insight into the running of a large country house all those years ago!
Next the gardens and the flowers! Just look at the photos below and you will be pleasantly suprised by the beauty of the place!
We then went down to the bird garden and spent a lovely 2 hours enchanted by the over 100 species of rare birds kept on the estate and had a very welcome cup of coffee in the recently restored restaurant complex.
We didnt have time to explore the Asian gardens and look forward to returning again to see their delights.
For poor mobility patrons, there is an internal bus system around the estate with "bus stops" scattered around the public areas so that all areas are accessible. There are play ares for the children, ice cream booths, a large car park, lovely vists and views everywhere, a well stocked gift shop and a well stocked restaurant with a good variety of delicacies.
All in all was £12.50 well spent? We both agreed it was value for money and would encourage others to visit despite the entrance fee. As previously stated, younger patrons may find the house a bit heavy going and it probably is an adults treat to admire the sumptious nature of this property.
If you want to make full use of your pass, arrive early as there is enough to keep you occupied for many hours.

...car parking. The village of Harewood is centrally placed in Yorkshire, 7 miles from the two main cities of Leeds and Harrogate on the A61 road.
Admission prices vary depending on what you want and the mix of people you have. As in most cases, groups are cheaper. I paid £6.50 each for two adults as I received some discount vouchers letting my children in for free. When arriving there, I also found out that admission price is half price if you travelled ... ...are many events staged at Harewood House and we were lucky that when we went Peugeot were having a Summer Fun Day and were offered to take part. Advantages: Chance to view a stately home in detail rather than just the grounds Disadvantages: Children could found the house tedious
I visited Harewood House in North Yorkshire recently which is the home to the Queens cousin, the Earl of Harewood and has an extremely impressive collection of art, antique furniture (a lot of which is Chippendale), porcelains and carvings.
The house was built in the mid 1700's and sits in outstanding grounds which include a Lake, where we had a boat trip, walked in the rose gardens, viewed the Church, there is an adventure playground for kids and ... ...servant and perhaps even Lord Harewood himself if he is in attendance although he wasn't when we visited.
There are varying costs for a visit, you can buy a ticket for the bird gardens and grounds alone but I would go for the 'freedom' ticket at £11. This gives you access to the house as well as the grounds, there are discounts for family tickets and both senior citizens above 60 and children under 3 have free admission.
A great day out to view ...

Advantages: beautiful landscape, charming house and grounds Disadvantages: watch out for school trips (can get quite overcrowded)
Harewood House is a lovely day trip. The grounds are expansive and for those shy of the lengthy walk from the gates to the house, there is a little shuttle that will drive you directly to the house. The house itself has a fanstastic Yorkshire charm about it and the garden out back is quite impressive. As for the inside of the house, it is indeed quaint. Hardly over the top, but rather in my opinion quite conservative. When you walk through the study ... ...there.
If you're travelling with kids then they'll love the bird garden. The penguins are always a big hit, but personally I felt the habitats for the birds could be better maintained. For tea and snacks there's a cafeteria, as well as the odd ice cream stand here and there.
All in all a great day out, particularly in the summer:) ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Harewood House (Leeds)"
sweep of park like common land overlooked by solid, prosperous homes, one of the most agreeable open spaces in the country." Bill goes on to sing the praises of ths fine spot ,"..
It has some nice old hotels,a pleasant shopping area and, withal,a genteel and well-ordered area. It is,in short, as nice a town as you will find anywhere. It reminds me, in a pleasantly English way,a little of Baden-Baden ,which is,of course, not surprising since it was likewise a spa town in its day-and a very successfull one, too. .." I must say I totally agree with Bill- I loved Harrogate the very first time I visited the town in 1970.

Advantages: Not expensive, easily accessible, good for wheelchair users, suitable for all ages Disadvantages: none
Canal Gardens is based next to Roundhay Park in Leeds. Put next to all the other touristy things in Leeds, such as Lotherton hall, HarewoodHouse, Royal Armouries etc, it represents great value and is for all ages.
Transport & Access
Getting there is no problem, just follow the signs for Roundhay park. There is loads of parking places around the area, so it's not a problem.
Alternatively, a number of buses go to within 50 metres of the entrance.
Whilst not a wheelchair user, I think that it has been deisgned with them in mind, as the whole complex can be accessed without climbing stairs.
Cost
I think it is £1.50 for adults and 75p for kids / OAP's

Gardens And Houses
* HarewoodHouse
Probably the most well known house in Leeds, Harewood is home to the Earl and Countess of Harewood. It won 'England's Large Visitor Attraction of the Year, 2009.' I visit here loads (almost too much!) and I am drafting a review on Harewood very soon, so if this interests you check it out when it comes along. You can visit sections of the house, look round the beautiful gardens (I love going to the Himalyan ...
