Harrah's Las Vegas Casino & Hotel, Las Vegas

Advantages: Everything you could want under one (massive) roof
Disadvantages: Located at the southern end of "The Strip" - so a bit of a walk to some attractions...

...We stayed at the MASSIVE MGM Grand for a few days this time last year. The MGM Grand, guarded by a 45-foot-tall bronze lion statue has 5,005 rooms and used to be the largest hotel in the world, a claim recently stolen by the Ambassador City Jomtien hotel in Thailand with 5,100 rooms. It's still the largest hotel in North America, although I think this will soon be stolen by George Clooney's Vegas hotel development... (While we're on the subject of large hotels, 17 of the 20 largest hotels in the world are in Las Vegas ! So even if you don't stay at The MGM Grand, odds are you'll be staying somewhere big...) The MGM Grand is part of the MGM Mirage group, that also owns, among others, The Bellagio, The Mirage, Treasure Island, New York-New York (just across the street) and Beau Rivage hotels/casinos in Vegas. Advantages: An unmistakable icon on the Strip, distinctive and with no shortage of class. Exceptional price for exceptional quality of room, service and attraction. Caters for all ages, groups and functional needs. One of the best.
Disadvantages: Watch the queues and price increase around American holidays but at all other times it is a supremely priced hotel.

...To be honest, when ‘The Luxor’ first opened in 1992 I was in Las Vegas at the time staying at the ‘Mirage’ and as a boy in my late teens I thought it looked a little bit tacky and uninspiring. It may have had something to do with the fact that I was staying in one of the higher echelon hotels on the strip and was surrounded by other sensational hotels such as ‘Caesars’ and the ‘MGM Grand’. It lacked that bit of aura, that mystique that comes with a Las Vegas Casino and Hotel complex. The idea was pretty cool: build a 30-story black pyramid in the middle of the desert and put in hotel rooms and a casino with an Egyptian theme, but it just didn’t have the feel or look of something to rival the big Casino’s. Advantages: Amazing hotels, gambling, city that never sleeps
Disadvantages: Gambling

...cigarettes (maybe he is afraid of flying), the experienced business man who sits and read a book and between his legs are a bag of duty free things, a young couple: she's got rasta hair and is dressed up like a hippie; he's got shoulder length hair with blue stripes in it and the guitar on his shoulder. It's great to travel to a new destination. Even if the trip is long you endure it because you know that something new awaits you. Well anyway, we reached our hotel, which is located about 10 minute walk from downtown Las Vegas. We were all hungry so we went straight out to get something to eat. All the casinos where open and downtown is full of lights just like the Strip (the strip is the main street in Las Vegas where all the big hotels are located). We ended up staying up till about 5 am.
