Advantages: Well explained, interesting, something for all the family Disadvantages: Not that easy to find
Harrison's caves are in the parish of St. Thomas they are quite difficult to find due to the fact that in Barbados they feel it is only necessary to put up a sign post every so often. Meaning that you will have come to several turn offs and junctions and not have a clue which way to go, its pot luck really!!! An island map is essential in this country!
But as for the caves when you get there, they are fantastic, they are truly beautiful. ... ...are well informed and the whole experience was delightful and a must for families.
You really won't believe your eyes when you see the stalactites, stalagmites, streams, lakes and underground waterfalls, its like being in an enchanted fairy tale world. As your looking at the amazing wonders before your eyes it is difficult to believe that it is all real. My children felt like they were in a magical wonderland!

But as for the caves when you get there, they are fantastic, they are truly beautiful. The tours are well organised and regular. The tour guides are well informed and the whole experience was delightful and a must for families.

The whole journey starts by watching an informative video on the history of the caves, where you learn that they were discovered in about 1795 and then officially opened to the public in 1981. You are then taken onboard a tram which takes a tour of the caves, this is taken at a fairly relaxed pace.
One of the nicest things is that they do stop upon two or three occasions to allow you to get out of the tram, in order for you to see the structures close to and to allow you to photograph them. This is particularly lovely when they let you see the underground stream and they light it all up, it is a sight to behold!
They are a unique natural feature, with one of the largest structures of geophysical structures I have ever seen. This is a must for those visiting Barbados and is one of its number one attractions. Normally it is all in darkness when no one is visiting the caves and I felt that they were allowing me to see what goes on beneath the earth, in that secret world we just don't see!
It had plenty of parking. The only problems were that the gift shop could have been so much better, it is very small, with very little in it and nothing that couldn't be found else where on the island. And it was expensive, it would have been better if they had some postcards or brochures on the caves for sale. Apart from all that it was fantastic and they also allow you to take your own photographs. A little bit steep on price but well worth it.
Advantages: Stunning flowers and scenery Disadvantages: A lot of walking around in a hot, very humid climate
The flower forest at Barbados is 50 acres of stunning flowers, rolling grass and stunning views.
The whole experience is like being in a mini rainforest.
Situated in the 'Scotland district' of Barbados it is very close to Harrison's cave and Welchman Hall Gully so its easy to combine visits and make a day of it.
When we went we spent about three hours there, the flowers were amazing with plagues situated around the forest giving details on the different types of flowers and trees.
The wildlife is out of this world. As you walk around the tranquil forest all you can hear is the chattering birds. And if you are extremely lucky you might even see one of the islands Green Monkeys.
What with the large variety of plants and species. The plants tower above you and you start to feel like you're in a giant's garden.
For those ...

Day before cruise - 1 day and overnight stay in Barbados
In Barbados, we saw the Harrison's Cave. This was a very beautiful cave showing breathtaking waterfalls. For anyone who is interested in stalactites and stalagmites, this is a must see cave. I'm not a big fan, but I found it very interesting. You are driven in an electronic tram through the narrow paths in the cave. The best ...
Advantages: Amazing weather, great views ,good nightlife. Disadvantages: People can be a little laid back.
unusual to see so close to the bay. Barbados is a lovely island and very beautiful from above.
Harrisoncaves we did not go to this as I'm not too interested in going underground when it's warm outside but I know a lot of people like this.
Island Safari takes you on a pre set route via a land rover 4x4 did not fancy this as the helicopter trip was more than enough but if you like it rough and ready I would try this.
Deep sea fishing and cruises they have lots of offers for this again if you look in your hotel foyer there are lots of brochures we did not get to do any cruises as our time was limited.
Evening entertainment on the beach; They had a great barbeque with lots of drinks and a huge fire, the dancers came in and did and interesting tribal style dance with very little clothing on and then the fire eaters came afterwards. They ...
