There is also a renowned theatre , whilst international concerts are held at the Harrogate centre.

These free public gardens right in the centre of Harrogate are a pleasure to behold . Hundreds of acres of rolling grassland , with a mini golf course , stream , plants , trees and very little sign of vandalism !
Harrogate is a quality upper class town . Snobby if you like , but I found the people very friendly when I've visited which is around a dozen times in my life so far.
I normally take the train which runs twice an hour from Leeds and once an hour from York . The great Yorkshire agricultural show is held each year at the Harrogate showground , again this is a half hour walk from the town centre. This show is one of the biggest of it's kind in the north and helps to put Harrogate on the map.
They also hold the Autumn and Spring flower shows here as well .
The town is medium sized and very clean and well kept . Their are hanging baskets a plenty on just about every prominent building and it just has that wonderful feel when you walk around .It is very floral in Harrogate and the scent from displays in the summer has to be sniffed to be believed .
There are plenty of shops for all tastes . Several indoor shopping arcades that house upmarket department stores and the like. Shops that I've seen include top bookshops like Waterstones , bakers ( many of which are unique to Harrogate and independent ) , fashion stores , music shops and many many tea rooms . Edinburgh Wollen mill have a branch here too - well worth a look for some real sweaters !
McDonalds has a presence of course , which kind of brings the whole town down market a little.
In conclusion -the town is well worth a visit for something a little different to the typical northern run of the mill town.It has to be said you do need a healthy bank balance to live and shop in Harrogate - it is not the kinda place you will pick up too many bargains . They do have a Publishers book clearance shop though !

Harrogate is situated 15 miles from Leeds, whilst Leeds is West Yorkshire, you travel down the Harrogate Road and you pass Harewood House and Bird Gardens. This is a must if you are staying in Harrogate and is open all year around. This is where West Yorkshire ends and North Yorkshire begins.
When you pass Harewood Gardens on the same side, the 5th house down is where Don Revvie used to live. I think that is how you spell his ... ...I moved away from Harrogate when I was 14 years old and left all my family there and we used to travel up by car or coach in the early days and as you are entering Harrogate there is an old sign with the coat of arms of the town on with a pale blue background. I remember that I always wanted to dig this up and cut it out and mount it on my wall so that everyone knew I was a Yorkshire Lass.
This then takes you up to THE STRAY. The Stray was left ...

I've lived in Harrogate all my life and it is actually really boring. The nightlife is awful, unless you want to party with chavs and metal heads!
It is a very expensive place to live and work in. It is also horrendous to commute as there are a large number of schools and the location of the business parks is rubbish.
The shops are all for old people or people with little or no fashion sense. We seem to have a lot of women's shops selling evening ... ...buying.
My opinion on Harrogate is probably different to that of a visitor simply because they don't spend their whole lives battling with ridiculous prices and the hordes of tourists who all seem to go to one place: Bettys.
This is a great cafe, best to visit before 11.30 when you will get a seat within 15 minutes.
The service is second to none although the price of a coffee is almost like the GDP of a third world economy.
Public transport is ...

Advantages: Shopping, Drinking and Shopping Disadvantages: Same problems any city has!
During a conversation with a London couple recently, they had said they like to spend odd weekends in different parts of England between their main holidays. We started to discuss the various places around England like York and Harrogate among other places. When I mentioned Leeds, they were a bit surprised. Then my husband and I decided to "educate" these Londoners. After that I thought, "Hmmmm..... I wonder who else would like to know about Leeds?"
According to the Conde Nast Traveller- the City of Leeds has been voted the UK's favourite city. The Yorkshire city left London trailing. The Lonely Planet guide recently dubbed Leeds the "Knightsbridge of the North".
~History~
Leeds began as a Saxon village. The little town probably had a population of around 1,000 people. In the 16th century things began to change. It ...
Advantages: Great location, even greater wine cellar Disadvantages: Breakfast was not quite to the standard I was expecting.
this hotel offers, and despite being an employee I hope that my views are well balanced focusing on the bad as well as the good.
I should add that Harrogate is not the hotel I will be based, in i'm going to be much further south; so I hope this reinforces my (what I consider honest) review of this establishment.
Harrogate Itself
I?m a Southern snob, I lived in the north east of England for several years and have an all to grim vision of life up north (where they work down pit!) While I enjoyed York, I hated Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Stockton, Sunderland, Redcar, Hartlepool, Gateshead, Peterlee etc. But Harrogate took my breath away, this stunning town is like a piece of heaven, that alarmingly happens to sit in the north of the country.
Its beautiful well kept streets featuring boutiques (as well as boutique hotels ...
Advantages: Friendly, quirky, excellent bars and restaurants and attractions that will suit everyone. Disadvantages: Other people know this too and come in their hundreds
I was born near to York in a place called Harrogate and went to York for University, I now return as regularly as I can.
York is one of the few large cities in England that has retained it's prettiness whilst still being extremely friendly towards visitors. It does not sprawl far outside the city walls and provides something new on every visit.
Architecture
------------------------
- Naturally the oldest thing in York are the Roman and Medival walls, which despite years of being repaired and reinforced are still walkable and in the Spring when the daffodils which line the banks are out, it is a best way to sightsee around York as it takes you past all the views. On a clear day, it is said you can see Leeds through binoculars.
- In amongst other things, York has it's spectacular Minster wich is almost tucked away behind the main ...
