...was Fish and Chips at Harry Ramsdens..it didn't matter which direction we were coming from my Uncle would always find the right road for Harry Ramsdens..
The quality of the food was without exception always high, I never recall finding a bone in my fish ( one of my biggest bug bears apart from egg shell in an omlette !! or fried egg), anyway I digress, the quality of service considering how busy the 'Chippy' is is always good and worth ... ...the place...I can heartily recommend Harry Ramsdens even though it is no longer in private hands, I hope that Granada do nothing to spoil the image, and I consider myself lucky that I live close to the orginal one and can' nip' over inside of 30 mins or so for a nostalgic trip whenever I have the need for a Fish & Chip fix !!..

The old wooden hut was demolished and new premises next door were built, I remember as a young child when out in the Dales with my Aunty and Uncle in the late 1950's and early 60's the treat was Fish and Chips at Harry Ramsdens..it didn't matter which direction we were coming from my Uncle would always find the right road for Harry Ramsdens..
The quality of the food was without exception always high, I never recall finding a bone in my fish ( one of my biggest bug bears apart from egg shell in an omlette !! or fried egg), anyway I digress, the quality of service considering how busy the 'Chippy' is is always good and worth waiting for..
Harry Ramsdens was taken over a couple of years ago by Granada, I though to myself this is the beginning of the end, they will change the quality beyond all recognition....however last year and earlier this year whilst in Blackpool, I saw their Blackpool restraunt and thought why not !!..the food was excellent and every bit as good and tasty as their original place...maybe slightly smaller portions...but delicious
I haven't tried thier other establishments, and they are now a truly Global company with outlets all over the place...I can heartily recommend Harry Ramsdens even though it is no longer in private hands, I hope that Granada do nothing to spoil the image, and I consider myself lucky that I live close to the orginal one and can' nip' over inside of 30 mins or so for a nostalgic trip whenever I have the need for a Fish & Chip fix !!..
There is no other chippy in the world that can come close to the quality and taste offered by Harry Ramsdens....there may be many good local chippies but theres only one Harry Ramsdens !!!!
Advantages: GREAT SEAFOOD Disadvantages: PRICES ARE EXPENSIVE FOR A DAY OUT
Harry Ramsden’s is one of the most famous UK fish and chip shops in the country. It serves one of the finest seafood dishes in the country and it beats all other pubs and restaurants that dare to compete with the awesome seafood taste that is, Harry Ramsdens, but we have someone to thank for that, Mr. Harry Ramsden himself. One of the downsides of the Harry Ramsden franchise is that there are nearly not enough of the Harry Ramsden restaurants ... ...notice that the amount of Harry Ramsden restaurants has depleted, which is a shame because Harry Ramsden is undoubtedly one of the finest cuisine fish and chip restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of going to. I remember going to this fine restaurant with my grandparents when I was a young lad, plus one thing I do remember about Harry’s, which is perhaps one of its downsides, also, is that the chips they serve aren’t always cooked ...

Advantages: When the quality is good, its excellent Disadvantages: if it is a bad day, not good
Harry Ramsdens has the reputation of being the best fish and chip restaurants in the world, with outlets all over the globe. I have visited a number of these famed outlets, and have one main concern - The quality is not the same in every outlet. If you go to other restraunt chains, you know the quality is the same (eiether good or bad) in each one. I have visited the Harry Ramsdens in motorway service stations (never again) and I have visited the ... ...not the best). The best on I have been to has got to be the restaurant in Blackpool. The atmosphere is wonderful, service outstanding and most importantly, the food was the absolute best I have ever eaten in a chip type situation. There was even bread and butter at NO EXTRA COST. The price was not the cheapest for a chip meal, especilally in Blackpool, but the quality was far beyond the price on the bill. Harry, if you could get the same quality ...

Advantages: Lots of seating beacuse it's generally empty! Disadvantages: Very bad service and awful food!
...be mediocre and acceptable however, Harry Ramsdens is most definitely the worst place I have eaten at for a very long time...in England!
My partner and I fancied traditional fish/pie and chips and as there are not many restaurants such as these in the West End and I had heard about HR (don't ask me where but maybe it had been in negative terms - I forget), I suggested that we go there.
We arrived firstly to be told that "there was a smoking area ... ...smoke during my meal I can get up and smoke at a bar table near the door." Either keep a ruddy smoking area open or brand your restaurant a non-smoking one!
I was led over the seating area and was told a pick a table of my choice. I did so and then proceeded to ask for our drinks as they weren't (not surprisingly) busy. The waitress then proceeded to shout over my head to another girl "is this table one of yours!" Hmmm real team co-ordination there ...

Advantages: Excellent quality and standard of food - steeped in history Disadvantages: Some may feel it is too expensive for take away - also staff could be more cheerful!
** THIS WAS AS CLOSE A CATEGORY AS I COULD GET - I VISITED THE BELFAST BRANCH**
I had a lazy weekend last weekend – did absolutely nothing all weekend – it was bliss! In my state of doing nothing – this involved no cooking or cleaning (well l did a wee bit of cleaning!). So on Saturday evening, David suggested we nip in to HarryRamsden’s in Belfast. I readily agreed – mmmm fish ‘n’ chips – lovely!
This time we visited the take-away. It was around 18.30 on a Saturday evening therefore quite busy. We entered to a queue of approximately 6 other people in front of us. Our order was taken immediately – 2 standard cod meals, with mushy peas please, one with coke and one with fanta lemon! We moved up the queue rapidly, - the queue was lengthening behind us though – lots ...

Advantages: Good prices, lots of parking, family environment Disadvantages: Not much veggie option, some problems with parking for disabled
As I had to go to HarryRamsden?s restaurant the other day on a mystery shopping assignment, I thought I might as well let you lot on Ciao benefit from all my tireless observation, unselfish eating of fish and chips on a weekday, and my extraordinary ability to steal a menu under false pretences.
HISTORY OF THE RESTAURANT
This particular HarryRamsden?s (Harry?s from now on) is the biggest fish and chip restaurant in the world, a fact which the other half finds hard to believe, but like I explained to him, most fish and chip shops don?t have restaurants.
Not only that, but this Harry?s is the site of the first fish and chip shop he opened. At the back of the car park, there is the infamous Harry?s Hut, from where he first sold his now world famous fish. This part of the site is very small though, and seemed to be shut when we ...
Ive recently tried HarryRamsdens in Blackpool and i have to say i wasnt impressed. After waiting almost an hr in a queue we were taken to a rather disgusting looking table. (It obviously hadnt been cleaned since the restaurant opened that morning) Food had been wiped away but only onto the floor. Having to stand on chips as you sit down is not something you expect in a restaurant!
The menu is good - lots of choice and good for kids too. It is however well overpriced. At close to £10 for fish, chips and a drink you really do feel ripped off. After waiting an hour though we decided to stay.
Food, to say the restaurant was very busy came quickly. I supppose they have to do this to get as many people in as quickly aas possible. The meal we had was ok but very small portions were served. (We found it wasnt enough to fill us and we ...
