Lifting the lid on bad science in the media

Advantages: Fascinating insight into media manipulation and disinformation
Disadvantages: Hard to read at times

INTRODUCTION Ms Larsbaby pointed me in the direction of this book which a friend of hers had read. The point of the book seemed to be to debunk myths around science and in particular the "pseudo-science" peddled by groups as diverse as nutritionists and journalists. Famous health stories would be examined in detail and taken apart where appropriate. My interest piqued, I had a look to see what all the fuss was about. BRAIN GYMS, HOMEOPATHY AND NUTRITION The author's targets in the book for peddlers of bad science are many and varied. He highlights some well known cases to highlight his point, though is at pains to point out that many other people are just as bad. The book examines the Brain Gym initiative, promoted in schools as a way to improve children's results, but what is it actually based on? The findings ...

Don't Look Twice - Andrew Gross

Advantages: A much better author without James Patterson
Disadvantages: Didn't want the book to end.

Don?t Look Twice ? Andrew Gross This is the second in the Ty Hauck series. It begins with a drive by shooting with everyone believing it is a revenge gang attack. But Ty, head detective soon finds out that it is so much more when a seemingly unrelated murder is connected to the only death in the drive by, and what?s worse Ty?s older brother Warren is involved. Ty goes through casino and political scams to find who is at the root of the problem. This was my first Andrew Gross without James Patterson and I thought he was much better on his own. It has the fast paced storyline with its cliff-hangers that keeps you wanting more. The new relationship we see forming between Ty and a certain lady looks like it will provide lots of excitement in the next book as well as a huge change for Ty. I look forward to seeing how he handles it. ...

Bad Lashes?

Advantages: Really black colour, gives good thickening effect in one coat, easy to apply
Disadvantages: Quite pricey

I'm not a big mascara fan - my sister spends an absolute fortune on the Lancome Hypnose, but having been lucky enough to inherit my Dad's dark, thick lashes, I don't see it as such a necessity so am pretty difficult to impress in the mascara stakes. I bought this in a set which contained Benefit's Dandelion, Benetint and this Bad Lashes Mascara - all for the bargain price of £43 - at £20 each for the Dandelion and the Benetint this was a bargain in itself and the mascara for me was an added bonus. This mascara promises "the biggest, baddest lashes" and that wearing this will be "like wearing false eyelashes without the glue". Quite a bold claim! The mascara follows on the same theme as their Bad Gal eyeliner with a really chunky black tube with silver tipped wand. The black, silver and pink colour scheme is really fun ...
