This may we wanted to get a family holiday away for a week but having a new baby we couldn`t go abroad so we looked around and opted for Haven Holiday park in Maplethorpe. As long as you go with an open mind and are prepared to be organised then you can have a very good time as I will explain: What we first did was to have a good look on the internet and decide which was the nearest haven for us to go to. Bear in mind when doing this work it out your selves as the distances that they give you are as the crow flies and it never quite works that way. We came up with a price of £84 for a week at Maplethorpe in Silver class accomodation caravan which was a bargain and I decided to book it over the phone. The man was very helpful but one bit of advise would be to ignore what they are babbling on at first as they spout all sorts of prices to you at first but then suprise suprise they come up with the internet price after some fantastic over the phone discount.
What the internet doesn`t say is that you linen hire is not included so you have to pay an extra £20 of which £10 you get back at the end.
Print your own map - Haven tend probably for enviromental uses just to direct you along the motorways and main highways which can add miles on to your journey. Go onto AA Autoroute on line and put in your postcode along with the Haven postcode and it will give the shortest distance there along with the exact milage and even for the worst map readers you can`t go wrong.
When you arrive at the park prepared to be patient as everyone is checking in. Park up whereever possible and we checked in in the main lounge which was very busy. Everything was in name order though so we got in the cue relevant to the first initial of our surname.
When you have checked in you are given a pack with details of the park, your key and they show you how to drive to your caravan so very clear.
The silver class caravan was extremely clean and could not be faulted. It came with TV and a fire in the living room and the kitchen was fully equiped to cook with. There is a dining room next to the kitchen and then down the corridor twin bedrooms on the left, double bedroom at the end with shower and also a toilet on the right. There was also plenty of storage.
BIG TIP- When you get there go down to reception and hire a fan heater as the only down side is unless in the middle of summer the caravan is like an ice box in the night and morning so leave a fan heater on in the corridor.
Facilities: There was a grocery shop and bakery which sold everything needed, a bit like a spar shop really. There are amusements for both adults and children in the arcade and entertainment on for children all day and night. If you go in the spring though a lot of the things like go carts and stuff will be closed so you have to be organised and know what you are going to do to stop the kids being bored.
This is what Haven say about golden sands: Golden Sands Holiday Park is a big favourite with families... buckets and spades are essential! As the name suggests there's a long, safe, Blue Flag beach stretching to nearby Mablethorpe. So it's easy to see why the holiday Park here at GoldenSands is one of family favourites.
The heated indoor and outdoor pools are fabulous... with loads of NEW features too - and the Park has kids clubs from tots to teens, plus daytime shows and no end of games and competitions to join in. A great choice of places to eat at Golden Sands means the cook in the family gets a holiday too! Every evening at Golden Sands means the action picks up in the bars, restaurants and spectacular entertainment venues - this is a holiday Park where they really know how to party! Park 2005 opening dates: 18 March - 28 October
All round very good value

What the brochure doesn't say is you have to cross a busy road to reach the beach. The grocery store is a tad expensive and the town centre at Mablethorpe is relatively close by to use, especially as there is a bus link. Must say though, I agree with below but this op is well written and may be better served in the 'Havens Holiday Parks' category.
