I have visited Haven holidays with my family for the several years now, my favourite destination being Presthaven Sands Near Prestatyn. This site opens in March and closes in November each year. In Presthaven, as in most sites, they have a vast selection of entertainment, especially for the children, with different activities at each site. It offers static caravans of various sizes and styles and also there is a place for touring caravans, situated near the Anchor pub, as you enter the site past the security gate, but Presthaven sands does NOT accommodate tents. All the static caravans come with showers rooms, kitchens, living rooms and either 2 or 3 bedrooms. Most are cleaned to a good standard but things can be missed. Prices vary as there are choices of 3,4 or 7 night offers, and the style of caravan adds to the cost. (for more information on prices visit

Then the models are split into categories;
The Standard models are a little hit and miss with no heating in the bedrooms and the television is so small it comes free with a pair of binoculars, they are 10 feet wide and come with the basic of cooking essentials. 2 or 3 bedrooms to choose from.
The Standard plus models are 12 feet wide, slightly wider than then standard, but have the same basic interiors and contents. With these modals you will have to hire bed linen from the linen store on arrival as it is not included in the overall price. Both Standard and standards plus are the only modals to allow pets.
The Superior models are 10 feet wide, (slightly narrower than the inferior Standards plus?). With this modal bed linen is provided but the beds are NOT made up on arrival, (which means you will have to collect the linen from the linen store on arrival).
The Superior plus models are slightly larger being 12 feet wide, again, the linen is provided on arrival and the beds are made up so there is no hassle waiting in the line at the linen store.
The Prestige modals having much more decorative interiors. The televisions are larger and come with either a video or DVD player.
The modals so far have no heating in the bedrooms, the only heat coming from a fire in the living room. Also smoking is allowed in the modals stated so far.
Then you have the platinum modals which do have heating in all bedrooms as well as the fire in the living room. These also come with private parking for at least one car. These modals do cost more but they are comfortable in every detail with some excellent interiors. Smoking is NOT allowed in the Platinum models.
Check in time depends on the modals of caravan you have chosen. Standard/standard plus/superior/superior plus are all 4 pm check ins Prestige and platinum are 2:30 check in
There are many Haven holiday caravan parks, all with basically the same forms of entertainment, restaurant, fast food outlets and fun parks. Presthaven sands is easily found along the A548 in Gronant, (post code LL19 9TT) At Presthaven, the caravans are situated in such a way that you are only a stone throw away from the sandy beech, which is a lovely walk into the entertainment centre on the park. The other way to the entertainment centre is via the road which can be dangerous for the smaller kids, but the vast amount of speed bumps slow the cars down to a crawl.
The site hosts 2 indoor swimming pool, one for the kids and the learners, the other is more for the distance swimmer. A twirling chute drops you into the smaller pool with a bit of a splash. There is also an outdoor pool which tends to only open in the hotter days. In the same building as the pool there is a large play area designed in such a way that the kids can safely play in the climbing area, filled with them little plastic balls and totally netted of so there can be no accidents. Whilst the parents sit around the café area to enjoy a nice well earned rest. Believe me the kids will love the climbing area, my two play in there for hours.
There is quite a lot to do on the site, but beware of going into the arcade as your money will dwindle away in a matter of minutes. The Mash and Barrel is the new restaurant, which opened in 2007 is excellent, it is spacious and the food arrives promptly and is very tasty, the service is great and the staff are very helpful. If you can not be bothered to cook for yourself then I recommend the restaurant.
And with Presthaven sands being on the North Wales coast line you are never short of things to do if you do get bored on the site. There are many places to visit, such as Conwy, Rhyl, Llandudno ,Snowdonia and the Mountain zoo.. Plus much, much more.
The cost for a more luxurious caravans are a bit over the top, especially during peak season, but what you get from the site and the surrounding scenic areas make up for the cost. If you choose to take full advantage of the site facilities then you will not have to spend money doing so as all is included in the cost of your holidays. A full day can be had with a swim in the morning, followed by a full English breakfast at the Mash and Barrel. Then a pleasant walk along the stretch of golden sands to either Talacre on the East, or West towards Rhyl. Then maybe hire one of the many single seated tricycles to explore the entire site, but beware, these can be slightly tricky to manoeuvre, especially over the speed bumps. For the more fearless, why not have a go on the small outdoor go-cart track, with the single or double seated go-carts….fantastically fast and funny. In the afternoon you could chose to waste a bit of change in the arcade (which is situated in the entertainment centre, just passed the information desk), or maybe a drive out into the beautiful surroundings of north Wales.
In the evening there are shows for everyone, with Rory and Bradley for the young to Bingo for the not so young. With the entertainment changing each night and dependent on season.
Presthaven sands is a lovely, fun place to visit as there is so much to do for the young and the old. With a shop on site there is no shortage of snack and food/beverages and with the new Chinese takeaway/restaurant there is something to please all tastes.
The staff are helpful and polite which adds to an enjoyable stay.
But there are a few downfalls… You do not get a choice of the position of the caravan so you could end up being placed anywhere on the site, you only find out when you book in. This could be a small problem if you find sleeping difficult and you end up with a caravan near the roadside, as traffic can be heard early in the morning. Also, there can be some excessive noise at night when the other guest are leaving the entertainment centre and making there way back to there caravans.
In all, a week at Presthaven sands is relaxing and enjoyable, especially for the child in you.

Advantages: clean facilites, up to date and in good repair, polite, well trained staff Disadvantages: pitches a bit on the small side, some awkward to use, no family bathing facilities.
