Overview
We booked this family break last September, and whilst it has seemed a long time coming, was well worth the wait…
This holiday is no center parcs break, but can be as relaxing, and as planned or as relaxed as required.
There are things to keep all the family involved, heavily involved around sports, kids clubs/story time, a very packed arcade, and swimming pool area.
The Caravan
This is the second Haven site we’ve visited, and booking early meant we got a large 3 bedroom static caravan, one double room, and two twin rooms for £ 249.00 for 3 nights (Friday thru til Monday). I was planning to use Tesco vouchers to pay part of the bill, but be aware if you use the book early discount
they cant be combined!
The caravan had a very spacious living area, with a wrap around sofa that would seat about a dozen… included were a television and DVD player, and a pretty good kitchen area with oven, fridge, microwave and ample storage for groceries. All mugs, glasses, cutlery etc were included in the deal.
The shower room/toilet was adequate and clean, and whilst the rooms were ‘snug’ there was sufficient storage for a long weekend.
Unfortunately, we backed onto the main railway line, and at regular intervals, found the roof and walls shake... a little bit 'Mary Poppins' at times!
Rockley Park during the day…
The site overlooks Poole Harbour, and one of the main reasons I went here was the brand new luxury spa.
Offering a number of luxuries, including Facial, Nail and Body treatments and the one I went for which was a Spa Experience. I opted for a 2-hour relaxation session, which got me away from the family, and the opportunity to relax in some style. It is ‘manned’ by qualified staff, all of which were very pleasant and made the stay very pleasant. All the treatments include unlimited access to the Bath House Spa, which includes both thermal and wet spa facilities and relaxation areas, a lunch and towelling robe, slippers and towels.
While I was pampered, the rest of the family used some of the other facilities, the indoor pool was heated, and rather too warm for adults, although my little girl loved it and my son had fun on the water slide. Its not the largest pool, but was ample for the number of people there this weekend. If the weather had been better, there was also an outdoor pool, with sun loungers, but we were not hardened enough to try that!
The kids play area was really nicely done with a very nice rubber matted play area including slides, roundabouts, a bouncy castle and trampolines; all in a very safe environment, and overlooked by one of the cafes. This meant the kids could play, while we sat and relaxed too.
We did venture round the crazy golf, and had an hour on the tennis court, which was fantastic value at £ 2.50 for the hour, including racket and ball hire (although you did need to put down a £ 5.00 deposit.)
There was a beach although really it was more of a makeshift affair with most of the excitement geared towards the lovely boats in the harbour.
This is a self-catering holiday, but the very pleasant (and very clean) ‘club-house’, and the reasonably priced on-site shop; ensured that this was easily done, and food and supplies were very easily obtained.
Rockley Park at night….
At night (which seems to start about 5 pm…) the action moves inside to the fairly varied club. There was live music for the night we ventured down, which was not entirely to my taste, but got the kids up dancing and was followed at 23:15 by Bobby Davro… yes THE Bobby Davro… in case you had wondered where he’d gone! He was truly funny, and had us all in stitches, although his act is still as it was a few years ago.
It does get a little rowdier at night, and with two small children, who thankfully weren’t drawn in by the Vegas lights, we spent most of the time back at base camp.
The Staff
I couldn’t end this review without mentioning the staff who were utterly superb – and I don’t feel like I get the opportunity to say that often!
They were friendly, helpful, and were always going out of their way to make the stay pleasurable.
Summary
I think this is a lovely place to go for a long weekend break, very nice location, very good customer service and superb facilities. I’m not sure if we would want to go for a week or a fortnight, but as a break I highly recommend it!
