In May we went to Havens Warmwell holiday park, near Weymouth, for a midweek break (mon-fri). At Warmwell all the accommodation is in lodges. We had no idea what to expect as we've never been on a holiday like this before (my hubby is strictly an abroad man!). We've got 2 children so really needed a lodge with 3 bedrooms.
To get a silver lodge with 3 rooms it cost us £126. You get discounts for children under 5 (£10 for a midweek break and £20 for a full week, for each child). You also get discounts for over 55's (same as childrens) and as my mum came with us we got that one aswell! My hubby works for John Lewis and so we got another discount through them and I think another discount for booking early!! Any more discounts and they would be paying us to go there!!

Anyway we arrived at Warmwell (very easy to find, not much else in Warmwell!) at about 2.15pm ready to collect our keys at 2.30pm (2.30pm is the check in time for silver, 1.30pm for gold and 4pm for bronze). We had to queue as other people obviously had the same idea to get there a bit early. Collected keys and were given a map showing us where our lodge was situated. Drove to the lodge and you are able to park your car right next to the lodge.

Very pleasantly surprised with the lodge and had great fun looking around all the rooms and cupboards!! Our daughter was leaping around the place with great excitement. With silver lodges you get a microwave and a fridge freezer (very handy with small children). To get a hair dryer and video you need to go for gold!!! One small downside was the tv which was very small and not remote control (shock, horror!!). The best part of the lodge had to be the bathroom though, which had a fantastic corner bath with a power shower which was better than our one at home!!! The rest of the lodge was very tastefully decorated and was very spacious and there was plenty of room for 3 adults and 2 kids.

The bedrooms were a good size and all the bed linen is supplied. You have to make up your own beds (beds made up for you in gold). The beds took a bit of getting used to as there is a plastic cover on the mattress which you tended to slide about on when turning over, the sheets just moved with you!

The cot that was supplied, which we pre-booked for £3.00, was very good. We were told that the cot would have to be in the living room for some reason that was not explained, however when we got there the cot was a proper cot which folded and was easily put into the smallest room when one of the two beds in there was put onto it's side. The cot mattress too had a plastic cover and so we used some of the spare bed linen to put on the mattress under the sheet I had been asked to bring for the cot (linen not supplied for cot). Our 10 month old slept very well in the cot, which made the holiday even better!

Another small downside was that the doors tended to stick, especially the bathroom. This was a bit awkward when the children were in bed and we were trying to be quiet and you had to wrench the bathroom door open after bumming it shut!! We did fill in the card that they give you asking if there are any problems. They do say that they will try to fix anything asap, but we weren't that bothered by it so we gave it in on our way home (hopefully they acted on it so the next people in there didn't have the same problem).

Then came the best bit...exploring the rest of the park. First we came to the amusement arcade. Very noisy but with loads of different amusements - loads of arcade games, penny shove games, pool tables, mini ten-pin bowling, ride on arcade games (you have to pay extra for all these) but there are change machines to help you spend even more money!! Then we went and had a look at the pool. Very nice with a flume slide (which our daughter couldn't get enough of) and a wave machine which is quite powerful so not so good for very small children. But the pool starts off at ankle deep and gradually gets deeper so you can sit on the edge with your feet just in the water.
Our daughter then tried out the Fun Palace which wasn't huge but she loved it. There was a big slide into a ball pit and rope ladders and squidgy shapes. Adults aren't allowed in which makes it a bit restrictive if you've got a nervous child (like ours but she was fine after going round once!). Also in that area are a roller rink and a fitness room and you get your crazy golf putters from the desk there. Each putter was £1 and you have to leave a £5 deposit which you get back when you return the clubs (we realised after we got 4 clubs that we could have been really tight and just got one and shared it!!!!!) The crazy golf course was ok but it looked a bit uncared for with lots of leaves and twigs on the course. There are also two play areas outside. One is like an obsticle course with balance beams and chain bridges etc. The other is a big wooden frame thing with a slide. Both are very safe having lots of bark chippings on the ground.

I suppose for some people a main attraction of Warmwell is it's dry ski slope but it wasn't really a factor for us! We did look round the 3 lakes which are there though. My husband is a keen carp fisherman and although it was out of season then, enjoyed looking round the specimen lake and seeing the carp coming up for the food thrown in by the guy who looks after the lake. Apparently this is a very good carp lake so I'm told!!

Other things at Warmwell which we didn't use are the kids clubs. Paws for 1-4 year olds, Tiger club for 5-11 and T-CO for 12-16+ .And an all weather multi sports court, a launderette and a fish 'n' chip shop.

We did use the 'Everydays' convenience store, which was quite expensive but if you need anything desperately is ideal as they do sell pretty much everything!

The night life there is very good, and while we were lucky and had my mum to babysit, a lot of people take their children to the shows at night (so expect to see loads of babies and kids in their pj's!!!). While we were there we saw a magician (very good), a female singer (not so good!) and a male singer (better!). The bar was very reasonably priced which was nice to see!

If you do get bored with all that though Weymouth is only a short distance away and has got a fantastic beach and is excellent for kids. There is also Sealife Park which, while being quite small, is very interesting and you can see sharks, rays, seahorses, sea lions and pengiuns etc. Next to Sealife there is a huge slide called the "cresta run" and for £1 you can go on it as many times as you can manage (there are a lot of steps!!). This was excellent fun and me and my daughter must have been on it for about an hour!!

Anyway I digress.....back to Warmwell. Just to conclude by saying that we thoroughly enjoyed our short break there and are hoping to go back very soon. Anybody who goes there now I wish you a very happy holiday!! ps they have a very good website where you might be able to get a late deal.

My family and I have been going to Warmwell since it opened, when I was just a baby. I even broke my collar bone there at 18 months old!! Obviously, I've seen a lot of changes happen, and I guess I'm a bit biased, as it is my second home now. We're taking my two friends along for Easter 2005, and shall celebrate my 16th birthday there, and I'm hugely looking forward to it. It's a great park.

This sounds great! All too often these sort of places don't live up to their advertising, great op, Susan
