Arrived Honolulu airport early from Las Vegas, then was met by a very friendly hostess and the bus driver, we had fresh lei's (really made the day for my daughter - having just watch Lilo and Stitch at the time). and a warm welcome. The bus driver and hostess did a double act from the airport to the hotel - which was very funny! The trip only took about 40 minutes to get to the hotel (Outrigger Waikiki on the beach - see my other report) ...
...to 6 hours over to Honolulu in Oahu, make use of this time. I got a rough guide to hawaii which I found invaluable, and while on the plane I made a shortlist of things to do - there really are that many! And you have to be carefull not to try and do so much that you don't enjoy them, here's our shortlist, and I'd highly recommend them all. ...then from San Francisco to Honolulu probably a bad thing if you don't like flying but well worth it once your there. I went in April 2003 for my sisters wedding she got married in Olomana Gardens this isn't available for people who want to get married there anymore I think they've turned it into a farm but it was beautiful never the less. The holiday cost around £1000 each for 3weeks self catering but it was worth every penny, it's the best holiday ...
...Waikiki Village which is being refurbished but it was gorgeous back in 2003 so I bet it will be even better once it's finished. The pool was gorgeous as when you dived in and went underwater there was a little window where people in the pub next door could look at. The staff was so friendly, Charlie's Bar was amazing and it's a really good family night. I was only 16 at the time when I went so we couldn't go to any pubs but the karaoke goes on well ... Now, calling Honolulu a tropical paradise is a bit of a stretch but it sure is a great place to have a holiday. ~ ARRIVAL ~ We landed at Honolulu International Airport around 10:30 pm local time. It seemed to take forever to get through the rigmarole of Immigration and Customs as usual … (damned visas) … but we made it out the other end eventually. ...absolutely no negative experiences. The Honolulu Police seemed to be extraordinarily busy all the time, they were constantly on the go, sirens blazing for some reason or other but we never encountered anything dangerous or even slightly threatening. We had a great holiday and the 5 days seemed to go by too fast. I would have no qualms about heading back to Honolulu again for a week’s holiday and would definitely recommend it as a holiday destination. ... Read review

Disadvantages: Too much to see and do in to little time, Crowded in some places

...situated in the heart of Honolulu and has many shops and restaurants and all the hustle and bustle. Also the beach, which is, jam-packed everywhere. Some areas of the beach have strong surf, which is good for surfing. We only visited this beach once and later found other lovely less crowded and more beautiful beaches elsewhere. Advantages: Lots to do, great food, great beaches, good shopping
Disadvantages: Busy/bustling, over touristed, can be expensive, Waikiki is a dive

Theres so much to do here - if your the type that wants to see things and not only bake in the sun then my first tip is get out of Waikiki. If all you wanted was baking in the sun, Majorca would've been a lot cheaper and would leave you with less jetlag. So quick list: North Shore - massive surf, don't even kid yourself that you're hard enough, Tantalus - up behind the university, mountain pass great views, Diamond Head - tough walk to the top, up ...
...Makaha - quite barren part where the poor of the island have been relegated, though at the end of the road you can sometimes see whales playing offshore, Hanuama Bay - reefs, snorkelling, massive number of tourists (hence reef mostly dead)..
