Darlington

Advantages: great for all the family
Disadvantages: non

I live in Darlington so i thought i would write a review about this town for anyone planning a visit here. I hope this helps you make up your mind. Firstly Darlington is mainly famous Railway, the Darlington to Stockton line which was the first railway line to be built. There is a nice railway museum in Darlington which holds different exhibitions. The next exhibition to be held at the museum is A Day Out With Thomas which is great for the kids. There is rides on Thomas the tank engine train, face painting, balloon sculpting, art and craft activities, food stalls, craft stalls, live music and many more things for the whole family to enjoy. The price to enjoy this is family - £35, adults - 8, chldren - 7, and under 2's are free. This great weekend is on the 7th and 8th of July from 10am till 5pm. For more information on this museum ...

Hotel Bannatyne, Darlington,

Advantages: Very reasonable price, well located for town centre
Disadvantages: Only the odd little thing that didn't quite match the image they want to present

This is a 60 room hotel close to Darlington Town Centre and owned by Duncan Bannatyne - one of the Dragons from the "Dragon's Den" TV Show. It is based on a 1820's house with recent, tasteful extensions. On arrival my first impression was a bit of a thumbs down as car parking was congested but I managed after a couple of minutes. Things improved from there; you ring the front door bell in a gracious period entrance and a person comes and opens it (as opposed to a squawking voice saying "push the door"!). Reception is in a room off the hall and is a desk on the corner of a room with soft chairs and newspaper. The staff have clearly been given all the right sort of training to make the right noises and stay calm when services required are rattled off - ironing board, paper, internet connections (yes to all). I was slightly surprised to ...

Halls Soothers

Advantages: Taste nice, soothe a throat
Disadvantages: No medicine

It's that time of year again, winter!! and to start it off I have a cold so this morning at the station I bought my favourite pack of cough sweet, Halls Soothers. Each packet was £0.65 but this was a station and I know you can get them cheaper in places like Boots etc. Halls are quite an impressive company. According to their website they account for more than 50% of international cough drop sales and their Halls Soothers range is the UK's number 1 medicated confectionery product. Halls was actually started by two brothers, The Hall Brothers in 1893 and originally they produced soap and jams. They then moved into confectionery and in the 1930's invented the popular mentho-lyptus which is the basis of most of their cough drops now. Halls Soothers are basically hard fruit sweets (boiled sweets) with a refreshing liquid centre. From ...
