Scandic Success
Advantages: pool, restaurant, ambassador lounge, comfortable rooms Disadvantages: Not especially cheap
...the one paying. Scandic are a big company who have hotels all over Finland, as well as in Swedon and, I think, Norway. --- Location and Transport---
The Scandic is on Mannerhiemintie, which is a large street running straight through the city centre. It's about five or ten minutes walk from the very centre of town, but there's a tram stop right outside if it's cold or you're feeling lazy. Three different numbers of trams run down Mannerhiemintie ... ...August. The curtains in the Scandic more than meet the requirements. They're very definitely black-out curtains.
If you've stayed at the Scandic enough times, you get a customer loyalty card. With this, you can get a free upgrade to an Ambassador room. Of course, this depends on how busy the hotel is. If there are plenty of people willing to pay extra for these rooms, they're not going to give you the upgrade no matter how many times you've stayed ...

Perfect Location in Centre of Helsinki
Advantages: As Close to The city centre that you can be Disadvantages: We could not think of any.
...this is a typical corporate Radisson hotel, with Marble floors and large atrium style reception. I guess what is memorable other than its key location, and lovely staff is the magnificent Dinning room / resturant which serves both fantastic evening meals as well as the sort of "satisfying a need" food such as club sandwiches and great burgers. The breakfasts however were outstanding with one of the largest selections of hot and cold, fresh and traditional ...

Advantages: Excellent location, good value, variety of accommodation Disadvantages: Noisy, lack of shower facilities
...We discovered Helsinki Eurohostel by searching a website where you can find hostel and budget accommodation all over Europe and booked through the site. Had we looked for a link directly to the hostel we might have saved some money as the Eurohostel website seems to offer a small discount for booking on line. However, we had made our booking easily and were pleased to find on arrival at the hostel that they were expecting us.
From the outside the ... ...mauve.
I would recommend Eurohostel Helsinki to people more tolerant than of noise than I am. I don't expect no noise, just a degree of regard for others. In a city that is not cheap (by British standards) this hostel represents excellent value and has the facilities you would expect of a modern establishment. It's location is fantastic, especially for those planning onward travel by sea but also for sightseeing generally. Recommended - but take ...

A Warm Nordic Welcome to Travellers
Advantages: Central location, great breakfasts, friendly staff Disadvantages: Somewhat overpriced, small bedrooms, tiny bathrooms
...The 3 star Hotel Anna is situated in a 7 storey building dating from 1926 in central Helsinki and possesses 36 single rooms, 25 doubles and several suites. Located on a street called Annankatu it is part owned and run by the Lutheran church although this has little significance for the traveller wishing to stay there. The hotel is about a 2km easy walk from the centre of Helsinki and all the main tourist attractions which is ideal if you are planning ... ...---Breakfast---
Hotel Anna is a Bed and Breakfast hotel with breakfasts being served downstairs in a purpose built cafe-style room. The food really was a strong plus point in favour of this hotel and you really couldn't come away hungry after a breakfast here. In addition to a range of healthy cereals, there were at least 5 different kinds of bread and this being a Nordic country there were also several types of crisp bread. Alongside this was a ...

For business travellers and romantic breaks
Advantages: Central location, good facilities, comfortable Disadvantages: -
The Hilton Helsinki Strand used to be part of the Scandic Intercontinental hotel chains, until becoming a Hilton Hotel. I recently stayed for four nights as I was attending a conference in Helsinki and its location was very convenient for the Bank of Finland - it was a pleasant 5-10 minute walk along Unionkatu to the Bank.
Our local organisers had negotiated a rate of EUR 125 per room per night for single occupancy - otherwise this rate is only ... ...is usually about EUR 160 from what I have been able to make out.
The hotel is located very centrally - being only a few metres walk from Hakaniemi Square, where there is an underground station as well as buses to Vantaa airport. A walk into the city centre (e.g. to the main station) is no more than 15 minutes walk and there are also taxis available around the clock.
The hotel is an eight storey building with just shy of 200 rooms. There are also ...
