Hi, I am sold on the economy, and how to improve oneself, including financially. In order to do this product testing, checking and 'changing' is important for 'best value'. Travel is a must, oh, and footy!

I regularly take long weekends away with my wife, and usually choose Bournemouth. Each time we try out different hotels, and recently chose Th Hermitage Hotel.
What a location. It is right next to the pleasure gardens on one side, facing the front is the beach and pier area, and to the other side is the Bournem, outh International Centre, with its array of facilities and bars and swimming pool etc. Not to mention the town centre shops are only a two minute stroll through the park. This location could not be better.
We arrived on a Friday evening and was greeted by a lady receptionist who was very pleasant. One thing I distinctly remember was that my wife ordered a daily paper for our room.
Saturday morning and no paper outside the room. Paper thief I thought, and did not make a fuss. Off we went to the dining room for breakfast. Afetr a considerable wait we were asked by a waitress what we wanted. My wife ordered a boiled egg and I went for a full cooked breakfast. We then waited about 20 minutes and was again approached by the waitress, she stated that the chef had forgotten to put the egg on so we would have to wait a little longer. Well this little longer was 30 minutes, then the egg came, and so did my breakfast, however my breakfast must have stood it's time under a hotplate waiting for this 'egg', as it was all rather shrivelled up and the beans were very dry and hard.
Sunday, here we go again, no paper. My wife phoned the receptionist, who just happened to be the same lady who took the paper order on the Friday, but to our dismay she stated that we had not ordered a paper! How odd! We put her right, and a paper was duly sent to our room.
Down to breakfast. We were seated and we waited, and waited, and waited....and after 25 minutes a waitress arrived and asked what we wanted to drink. My wife asked for coffee which was duly served, but stone me, I asked for tea, a difficult request it appeared, because I waited another 10 minutes for a pot of tea. I should have brought a teabag down from our room I thought! So it was 35 minutes after we were seated that I was given a drink. When the waitress came she stated that she was busy, that was obvious she was a waitress and it was breakfast time!! The problem was is that she made us feel that it was our fault, our fault for placing an order and making her busy! The matre de was summoned and he did apologise, and then he continued to serve us, much quicker I should add, but again the beans were hard and dry.
The rest of the stay was OK, but we felt that the hotel catered well for the elderly and retired, as 90% plus of all clientel were in that group, we felt that at 40 somethings we were the youngest there.
There is a small bar, but you could die of thirst waiting to get served!
Entertainment happened on one night, but was very poor.
The room maids were very efficient and kept the rooms very clean.
In all the hotel has a prime location with staff who could, and should improve. If it was not for the location they could easily lose custom.

Thanks for the tip. I've been to the Royal Bath and think it's lovely, particualrly at Christmas when they have some lovely decorations all through the hotel. When I visit Bournemouth with my parents we always have a visit and have a spot of lunch in the large windows over looking the garden.
The reason we have booked into the Hermitage is because of the locality for the shops and we always do our Christmas shopping there.
Thanks for the info - confirmed that The Royal Bath is the best there. Shame the view from the front is now obscured by the cinema that has been built and never seems used.

Re the comment in your guest book. I better be honest we have a reservation in December for this hotel. Am feeling a bit anxious especially as nobody else has commented - I was hoping to do the first review in December if no one beat me :-).
Where else do you recommend in the Bournemouth / Poole area?
