We spent two nights here last August during our second holiday in Asturias ("we" being my husband and myself and our 3 children then aged 5,11 and 12) and had a fantastic time. The idea was to see a bit of Gijon before heading into the hills for a week's self-catering in a former shepherd's home now converted and with all mod-cons. In fact it was the owner of the cottage-rental company we used who suggested this hotel.
As it turned out we wished we had spent longer in Gijon as it is a super city with plenty to see and do. The hotel Asturias makes a great base as it is an easy stroll to the beaches, marina, headland, old fishing quarter, aquarium, museums and shops. Set in the Plaza Mayor (Main Square) we had wondered about noise at night from neighbouring bars but I can honestly say it was not a problem - and our rooms had balconies ...

Advantages: A fairy land for children and Grown Ups. Disadvantages: Those footpaths.
Just back from a little jaunt to Lucca, the ladies always wanted to go back to see it at Christmas time.
We had booked the flights back in July, so East Midlands to Pisa with Ryanair, included a Hold Baggage Case (in case of Xmas shopping), so also Airport Checkin prices, but total each £47 return.
Checked Hotelscomparison.Com which came up with this "WACKY" looking place. Price was £101 for a Double including Breakfast for the three nights. So about £16.50 a night Bed & Breakfast per person, where could you get that in England. Booked thru Octopustravel.com, thank goodness it was one you pay up front at booking, so did not suffer thru exchange rate falling since booking.
Emailed Hotel owner to check on a local Restaurante as we would be on an afternoon arrival so expected to get to hotel about 18:30 and did not want to trawl ...
Advantages: Very convenient when shopping Disadvantages: Not exactly a scenic location but that is not why its there.
I ate lunch here with my wife and two friends in October 07 We were there because we were shopping at El Corte Ingles, which beyond doubt is the superior supermarket chain in Spain.
The service was quick, the waiter was attentive and the food was as good and comprehensive as the menu suggested. The menu itself consisted of typical Spanish fare, tenera (Calf) beef, various cuts of pork,a wide selection of fish, soups and salads, nothing that I remember in great detail, but what I do remember was the overall high quality of the food that was served up to me and my companions.
Do you ever get that feeling when the food arrives at the table and your mind says either "wow, I think I'm really going to enjoy this," or "Oh no, I wish I'd chosen to eat someowhere else."
Well they had the wow factor but not over the top. I recall my bass ...
