Booked car through Ryan air link to Hertz. Had a quote for £158 for a week which seemed good value. Payment was taken at time of booking and was non refundable. It stated that extra cover was available at the pick up and that we would have to pay for a tank of petrol. Pick up car at busy airport and they rushed us through. No mention of supercover just the petrol cost which they circled and double underlined on the receipt we signed. The receipt was in Spanish.There was NEVER any mention of extra insurance at the pick up desk. When we got home I have a AMEX bill for an extra £222! not the £47 I had been expecting for the petrol. The hertz web site has no phone numbers only email link to customer services. I lodged a complaint but as it was so much money I also rang AMEX for advice. Amex were brilliant and managed to get me through to Hertz customer services. The lady I spoke to was rude and agressive and just kept repeating - 'we will not be refunding' and didn't let me finish my sentences. When I asked for her name she refused to give me her surname. There was no empathy or people skills at all. I would say I am a fairly assertive individual but this woman reduced me to tears! I am continuing the fight with Hertz to get some kind of refund but feel it is going to be a long haul. My advice to you is not to hire through Hertz. I thought I was getting the reassurance of a big company but it has been a nightmare. In my opinion I think they are just out to make money with overpriced extras that lots of people don't need.
