I have just returned from staying in this hotel with my boyfriend over New Years for 2 nights. We booked it through Hotel Direct, as they offered the best deal and I have used them before without any problems.

** Hotel Location ***
The address of this hotel is 2 Bridge Place,. Victoria, London, SW1V 1QA. Its situated directly opposite the side entrance of Victoria station & underground which is extremely handy! You come out of the hotel and cross the road and your in the station. Despite this, the road that it is on is pretty quiet, and there's no noise from the station, although there were a couple of building sites nearby, but these were pretty quiet (but could have been because it was New Years Day!) However, most of London is a building site at the moment, they seem to be sticking apartments up in every little space they can find, so it's not that unusual! Because of its location, this hotel is very easy to get to, either if you go directly by train to Victoria, or to Waterloo and then 3 tube stops to Victoria. It also obviously has very easy access to the rest of London via the tube station, or by walking as it's very central, and Buckingham Palace is 5 minutes by foot.*** Rooms ***
This hotel has around 200 rooms, and a number of executive suites. We opted for the standard room as we weren't going to actually be in it much! We were extremely pleased, if not a bit surprised, when we arrived at 11.30am to find our room was ready! We were on the 2nd floor, which was easily accessible by 3 lifts, or stairs. It was a really good size, with a double bed, dressing table, wardrobe, coffee table, chair, and 2 bedside cabinets. The bed was very comfortable and had a huge wooden headboard which gave the room a modern feel. I always find it hilarous how many lights they seem to have in hotel rooms - in this particular one there were 2 bedside lamps (one each side), a gorgeous up-lighter in the corner of the room, a desk lamp on the dressing table with a dimmer, but no main light on the ceiling. This gave the room a cosy feel, but did mean that I had to do my make-up in the bathroom! This was no problem, however, as it was a nice size, and had a large mirror covering one wall over the sink. There was a shower over the bath with 2 showerheads, and it wasn't one of those annying drippy ones, it was very powerful with simple controls and an easy temperature adjuster. The only thing was the plug hole was quite small, so my the end of your shower you were stood in a bit of water, but it did drain away eventually. We were very impressed with the little extras in the bathroom:
  • Shower Cap
  • Dental set consisting of a tiny toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Sponge
  • Shoe shine sponge
  • Comb
  • Yummy smelling aloe vera soap
  • Cotton buds
These all came in little individual Hesperia boxes, and got replenished every day.

We also had a mini-bar in the room, which offered water, coke, lemonade, beer, minature spirits, Pringles, Toblerone, and jelly babies. BEWARE - these items are VERY expensive! We had 2 bottles of coke before checking the price list and discovered that they were £2.80 each! And the minature spirits were £6 each! I know you expect this from a minibar, especially in London, but we refrained from drinking or eating anything else from it!*** Hotel Services ***
There is a concierge service at the hotel who are happy to provide you with directions or book a taxi for you. We were also able to leave our luggage in a room when we checked out so we could spend another day in London.

The hotel has a gym, consisting of a couple of tredmills, bikes and steppers, a set of free weights and a couple of machine weights. There is also a pool and a jacuzzi which was very clean and was always pretty empty. They give you a towel when you go down so you don't have to use the ones in your room.

They also offer 24-hour rooms service - very dangerous when you crawl in drunk at 3am! You can order full meals, snacks, or drinks - we got a bottle of champagne on New Years Eve, which turned up exactly on time in an ice bucket with 2 flutes - it cost around £25 which we thought was fairly reasonable.

In the room, there was a little information booklet about pillows - you could actually order a specific pillow type from about 10 different ones, brilliant! We stuck with the ones in our room as they were pretty comfy!

*** Breakfast ***
We had breakfast included in the price of the room, so made the most of it both days! They served in until midday on New Year's Day which was a nice touch, and lucky considering we didn't get up until 11.30! The other days it is served between 6.30 and 10.30. It's the sort of breakfast you expect from a 4* hotel, you can have anything you can imagine to eat - cereal, croissants, fresh fruit, yoghurt, and bread, along with full cooked breakfast with bacon, sausages, black pudding, beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, toast etc. You can also order 'specialities' which they cook to order including poached egg, smoked salmon, and kippers. And to top it all off, unlimited tea, coffee, and fruit juice.

*** Cost ***
We booked our room through Hotel Direct, and it cost us £220 for 2 nights, which is quite reasonable for a 4* hotel in London. We did shop around for htis price though, and some websites quoted nearer to £300. Also, we noticed on a board in the reception that the price per room was £250! This is obviously to make the most of tourists and business people who have not booked. So I would recommend not booking directly through the hotel!

*** Overall ***
This is a fantastic hotel in a great location. I would definately recommend it. It is a great leisure hotel as well as business, with excellent service, clean well-furnished rooms and a yummy breakfast!!
