Advantages: quiet & peaceful, beautiful scenery, close to Ben Nevis, a perfect lifestyle Disadvantages: A long way for just a weekend
...I first visited FortWilliam when I was barely 4 years old. Hardly remembering anything about it, my parents took me back when I was 14 to tour the Highlands and the Hebrides. We stayed a lot longer than planned in FortWilliam and since then I have been back there every year either with my family or my friends.
Perfect for camping, with plenty of sites not far away, and perfect for those who wish to live the HighlandHotel lifestyle in the glamourous hotels, and bed & breakfasts. Also a perfect setting for renting self-catering accommodation in the area.
As you walk down High Street, you will notice that this is the second largest town of the Highlands, next to Inverness. Plenty of shops at very affordable prices, plenty of gift shops, and plenty of pubs along the street...
I'd sincerely recommend either the Grand hotel...

...~~*~~ INTRODUCTION ~~*~~
FortWilliam - a delightful place to visit - before I went there 2 summers ago I assumed it was just a fort and not a whole new wonderful holiday experience! Hmm how wrong could I have been? The place where both Rob Roy and Braveheart were filmed, it's definitely a place to see if you believe in exploring the UK's finest places. I'm not an expert at writing travel reviews so please bear with me if this review isn't laid out exactly as you'd expect it to be.
~~*~~ WHERE AND WHAT IS IT? ~~*~~
Well as it's in the "United Kingdom Experience" I'm hoping everyone knows that it's here in the UK but it's right up there in the West Highlands of Scotland.
As the crow flies (or car drives…) it's roughly 500 miles from my home in West London to FortWilliam, which equates to 8½ hours driving if you average...

Advantages: Beautiful scenery, good for fitness, raise money! Disadvantages: Bad weather dependant on the season
...I decided I would do the West Highland Way in August/September last year over a period of 6 days.
I do not regret that decision one little bit.
The West Highland Way is a 95 mile walk from just north of Glasgow (Milngavie) to FortWilliam which sits at the foot of Britains highest mountain, Ben Nevis. It is a beautiful walk taking in some of the most beautiful scenery on our island. you can, of course, choose to walk the other way but I had been warned that it is a little more difficult as there are more steep climbs going the other way, whereas the climb is more gradual from south to north.
It is up to tthe individual or group as to how many days to take for the walk. The same can be said for where to stop and stay over. There are a number of towns and villages on the way with accommodation ranging from camping sites...
