The Hilton hotel in Athens is a huge structure in a fantastic location for people visiting Athens, 1.7 miles from the city centre. It is a short taxi ride from the airport (about 20 minutes) and is great for those on business or just there to soak up the culture of the city.
The main entrance to the hotel is a sweeping drive taking you round to the front door. When you arrive (whether by taxi or in a rental car), the car door is opened for you, and you are helped with your bags. The concierge can arranged for bags to be taken to your room, although we did not use this service. After walking into the Hilton you realise that you are in a posh hotel. The jewelry shop sells rolex and bulgari watches. From the foyer, lifts take you up to one of the 12 floors.
From my hotel room on the 5th floor I had a clear view of the Acropolis which was a bonus. The hotel has recently been refurbished in a simple modern style which is highly aesthetically pleasing. The double room in which i stayed had a double bed covered in a (so lovely i wanted to steal it) feather duvet, a sofa, a fully equipped desk, and a television, showing BBC world and several other channels, through which the internet could be accessed for a price of 10 euros. There is a mini-bar in the room and on the balcony there is a table and chairs.
The bathroom of the hotel is probably the nicest i have ever seen. The floor and bath surround are made of marble, and the sink and shower cubicle are made of frosted glass. The combination of the marble and glass is highly elegant. The shower has a large shower head attached to the ceiling and also a variable shower head on a hose. The bath has both a tap and a shower attachment. Bath robes and towels are provided for you in the room.
The hotel has 4 restaurants and 3 bars serving a selection of different cuisines. The galaxy bar on the roof of the hotel is where I spent the late hours on saturday morning sipping a 15 euro strawberry daiquiri. Maybe the pricing is a little expensive (75 euros for a bottle of chardonnay), but then again, you are staying in a Hilton Hotel paying at least £170 a night so what can you expect. The mini-bar prices are the same and you can expect to pay 10 euros for a miniature of vodka, 6 euros for a bottle of mineral water, and 4 euros for a kit-kat. This hotel is perfect for the corporate expense account.
The hotel is near to the parliament building, the first modern olympic stadium, Athens Concert Hall, the national Gallery, the Byzantine, Benaki & Cycladic Museums, and the main shopping districts, Plaka and Kolonaki square, so the location is very convenient.

The hotel is just fantastic. This is my second trip to Athens since my birth there in 1983, and staying in the Hilton made my stay very enjoyable. I will definately visit the Athens Hilton again, and will probably visit Hilton hotels in the future.
