I stayed at the HiltonBarcelona for 2 nights last year, and I must say it was not really up to standard.
We were with a party of around 200 people - we spent a lot at this hotel, i am a smoker and was sharing with a colleague, we were all told to check in at 1 pm, most of my companions managed to...not me and my colleague - they lost our booking and through no fault of our own we were made to stand (well ok sit) and wait for well over an hour whilst they found us a room - It would have been much better if they were at least friendly about it - they definately wern't!
Getting our room.....eventually it was like a shoe box, and it was a non-smoking room, we went down to complain and were told that there were no other rooms available and we could smoke in the room - surely this is not acceptable for the next (presumably) non-smoking guests to occupy our room afterwards?
2 of our lady colleagues were checked into a room in this (rated 5 star) hotel which stank of vomit - really nice.
Prices at the bar and restaurant were sky high - over £5 for a Jack Daniels and Coke! What a rip off.
Food was passable, typical American influenced style - when I go overseas I like to try local dishes, other Hiltons offer local menus, why can't this one do the same?
During one of the seminars, with 200 people in the room there was a terrible stench which cleared the hall - it was like someone had let off a stink bomb in the confined space, it turned out to be a drainage problem.
The hotel, taken in the context of hotelsin general was i guess ok - after all everyone makes mistakes, but this is a 5 star rated hotel - my employers paid a serious amount of money to put us up there for 2 nights and it really was not up to scratch - I would not recommend that anyone wastes their money in this hotel.
Subsequent to this stay I signed on with the Hilton Honors card scheme, I must say that this is a pretty good loyalty programme - you get points on stays, jump the que treatment at check-in, and a 50-50 chance on getting an up-grade if you ask WHICH YOU MUST!
