Myself and my partner stayed at the Hilton, Bath City on Wednesday 30th May 2007, after a long day touring Cornwall and Padstow.
We booked the hotel under a Friends and Family discount, although I wasn't expecting much after reading some of the ratings the hotel received from other Ciao members. I was pleasently surprised.
When we arrived, I was dubious about the underground parking, staying for 24 hours in a short stay car park didn't sound right. I checked with reception, who told me they had an agreement with the owners of the car park to allow residents a charge of £17 per 24 hours. We weren't due to stay 24 hours after arriving around 9pm, but it seemed the easiest option and wasn't that expensive. It is a short walk from the car park to the hotel up some steps, but would advise any disabled visitors to get dropped off outside the front door before parking as i couldn't see any ramps.
On check in, it all went smoothly. Although, for a late check in, you must allocate a credit card to that booking. Everything was easy, the staff were very helpful and friendly, looked very willing to be there. The only problem I had was attaching my frequent flyer card to th booking. For people who are with BMI Diamond Club, it is under the Hilton system as British Midland (BM).
Our Deluxe room was far from deluxe, we were on the 4th floor around the back of the hotel in the areas with all the suites, and on a friends and family discount, we obviously received one of the non rennovated rooms. My only concern was really having to walk through a building site to get to the room. As we booked a double, we were both surprised to see 2 Single beds. The reception staff were very helpful, I called immediately and although they found a double room, it was only standard, but was in a rennovated part of the hotel. I wasn't bothered, I would rather have a double than a twin. The girl at reception was nice enough to offer to bring the new room key up to us, which you don't often see nowadays. I was very impressed.
Our new double room was very nice, very modern, with a flat screen TV. The views were not as nice, but we wern't planning to spend that much time in the room apart from sleeping.
Breakfast the next morning was lovely, full english with a selection of cheeses, breads, cereals and there was also an omelette chef. For the price of the room, inclusive of breakfast, I cannot complain about the standard of the food. The only issue I had, was the tea was quite cold. However, you can ask for a fresh pot as much as you want.
We checked out again the next morning with minimal fuss, the girl at reception validated our car parking ticket and for some reason, we were not charged for the stay in the car park which turned out even more reasonable.
The location of this hotel is fantastic for exploring Bath, it is very central and within walking distance of the attractions. The building itself is quite old and run down looking, but inside it is just what you would have expected from a Hilton Hotel. It also includes a Living Well express gym which I didn't have the time to visit unfortunately. First class service and exceptional standards. I couldn't fault the service of the staff even if i tried.
For all of you wanting to stay at the Hilton Bath City, I would recommend that when booking you make a special preference to ask for a rennovated room. Otherwise you will be put at the back of the hotel and be awoken early morning with the sound of builders.
It was an lovely hotel and would return.
As requested by a couple of Ciao members, the rack rate price for the hotel room i stayed in with Breakfast, is bookable online from £138.00 in Low season and up to around £177.00 medium season and beyond.

great review. I'm going to Bath uni this year. I doubt my accomodation will be as nice as the Hilton though! I agree with the comment below though that it needs the price of stay. silentpig
